i'm not sure what you're talking about :confused: . i wasn't going to throw it in the fire. i'll probably spraypaint my scroll wheel (it comes off) and that's it. i don't know of any way to fill in plastic scratches other than fine wet sanding it.

the fix was a pretty obvious one, so i don't think i'm in any danger of destroying anything. but yeah, i'll write a how-to once my 'digitical camera' is working ^_^

i know you weren't. i had actually forgotten you mentioned it, honestly. i took off the back, battery and hard drive and noticed the firewire port was carefully installed with a very small piece of scotch tape. brilliant. i took a soldering iron to the ibrick and voilá, it's an ipod again...

alright, i did it. i took it apart. and i fixed it. well, for the most part anyway. while i was at it, i sanded the metal case on the back. everything's semi-peachy. firewire port works now, but the remote still doesn't. oh well. better than an ibrick.

finale 2003, sibelius, melody assistant X. finale 2003 is OS 9 only though x_x. sibelius is my choice for ease of use and power. melody assistant is $15. all of these come with midi export/import, too.

if it had built in bluetooth it could become great, even revolutionary if certain companies like sony would integrate bluetooth into their devices (televisions, stereo components, etc.)

i'm very much a beginner in the audio world. right now all i want to be able to do is plug a keyboard into my computer and be able to compose music (using finale or a similar sort of program). what's a cheap sound card that accepts midi input that will work on my mac? what's a cheap keyboard...

i hope, for codetek's sake, that OS X.3 does NOT have virtual desktops. codetek has worked extremely hard on an extremely worthy product.

Appleworks didn't come with my machine =/ so i use Office when i need to do spreadsheet stuff. for documents, i'm crazy enough to use InDesign... it's got smarter kerning. if it's a school paper i'm writing, i'll admit it, i use Word ^_^.

by the way, the article is talking about the XServe. GUI responsiveness is not that big of a deal to a rack-mount, neither is having the bestestest video card. and yes, you *can* add more XServes to the rack to boost productivity. about aging... no one switches out their servers that often, so...
