    Tiger Authentication and separate VLAN...

Well, if the home folders are discovered by Rendezvous (what are we supposed to call it these days?) then they won't discover the share - Rendezvous uses broadcasts to the local network only; it doesn't cross a router.

Article: Unauthorized Freedom Walkers will be locked up

You can tell with certainty it's not free, by the fact that it contains the word "freedom". If it was actually free, they wouldn't feel it necessary to call it a Freedom Walk - c.f Ministry of Truth, Ministry of Peace. Way back when, countries used to call the government department that runs...

    Powerbook DVD region free?

That's why I'd suggest videolan - it's not a hack to the DVD drive, it just declines to use the DVD-specific services the drive offers (which are tied to region codes), but reads the raw data from the disk and decodes entirely in CPU - essentially treating the DVD drive a pure optical data...

    ipfw2 in OSX Tiger Client?

According to this page (hopefully the long URL doesn't get chopped up) http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?query=ipfw&apropos=0&sektion=0&manpath=FreeBSD+4.8-stable&format=html ipfw2 was introduced to FreeBSD as of 5.0, in July 2002. The page lists the new command options that are available...

    Powerbook DVD region free?

You might be able to do it by flashing the firmware on the drive, but I'd consider it pretty risky. Have you tried videolan? It's not the most elegant interface, but it's all software, so there's no risk of trashing anything...

    Citrix And Macintosh Osx

The way it works out for me is, I end up with a downloaded file called launch.asp, which I then have to open with the ICA client. That then works fine for me.

    iTunes: Convert/Format "Protected" Song Files?

You do however have the right to make archival copies of a CD that you own, including transforming it from one format to another (a tape for your car, an mp3 for work, etc.). Fair use right are curtailed by DRM technologies, there's no two ways about it; the same goes (typically) for the right...

    iTunes: Convert/Format "Protected" Song Files?

Actually circumventing copy protection may well not be illegal if you're not in the USA - check your local laws. In the States, it probably is illegal - a separate question there is whether the laws under which it is illegal, are themselves constitutional.

    Service packs..are they free?

You should note that Apple keeps providing security patches for the current release, and the current release - 1. So, they now maintain security patches for 10.3 and 10.4; once they release 10.5 they'll probably stop maintaining security patches for 10.3 pretty soon after. With the 1.5 year...

launchd scheduled launch of cocoa app

Well, that would be trying to start a GUI app, as root, even when there's no one logged on to the console. You'd probably have a better shot at running the python scripts. Other than that, if I'm not mistaken, it won't do you much good to start bittorrent without also opening a torrent, right?

Rogue Cron Using All My Cpu

Hmm. It might be interesting to know a bit more about the process is doing. What is the full command line that called the process ('ps ax' will tell you), what files the process has open ("lsof -c cron" will tell you")...

Ars Report - x86 on a white box

It's not necessary to have access to the source of the software that interacts with the the DRM hardware, to write a fake implementation. All you have to do is check what system calls it exposes, and implement dummy calls of the same name that always return "yes, you are running on a legit...

Ars Report - x86 on a white box

Fundamentally, they can't stop you - as long as Darwin is open source, the part of the OS that communicates with the DRM hardware (evil. Eeeevil) can be replaced. That's the whole point of open source software - freedom of choice. Apple can't have it both ways - either their core OS is open...

    Unable to ssh

when you try to ssh, add the -v flag for verbose output - might give a hint where things are going wrong. Also, check the server's system logs from around the time you started having problems.
