Watch the thread hit a penny and derail... Laptop hard drives use the exact same mechanisms to read and write data as every other hard drive out there. The difference is the size of the platter, and the connection type. You're not going to wear out a laptop drive from constant use anymore...

It can seem like the hard drive has died when it actually hasn't. I don't know the actual mechanics of it, but I suspect that sometimes a critical file doesn't get properly written because the computer didn't shut down correctly, and the firmware doesn't recognize the hard drive as bootable. I...

Regularly, OS 9, OS X, iTunes, iChat, Safari. I also intend to use GarageBand 2 when I get my new iMac (which will still probably be the 1.6 Ghz — as much as I'd like to splurge, I don't think I could afford it). What would your second choice for a browser be if your first wasn't available...

The extension cord might get in the way, however. Remember — the Mac mini is light and portable, but it still needs constant power from the wall. It doesn't have a battery because it's a desktop computer, and not meant to be moved around THAT much. It's a cool idea, though... it could be...

Why would it being a laptop hard drive make a difference? A hard drive is a hard drive is a hard drive. Imagine having a Mac mini server: you could stick it anywhere. You could hang it from the ceiling, string up a power and Ethernet cord, and be done with it. Someone should add a poll...

You are correct in your first assertion. Not many of us have a Mac mini yet — because they aren't shipping yet. ;) BTW... I love that name, Chicken of the VNC. Brings Jessica Simpson to mind... ;)

Out of the box, yes, they are, but you can flash the ROM (or something) to make them compatible.

Au contraire, I've had both of those happen to my iMac. The first one has only happened once, though, and neither will happen if you keep your Mac in good shape and don't load it up with weird stuff.

Why should we have to use a different browser just because you're lazy? I scaled all my pictures down to 800x600 or 600x800 (they were 2048x1536) and wrote every letter of the HTML by hand for my gallery. :p
