    HD full, now won`t boot!

In the case that there simply is too much data on the drive, you can startup into Single User Mode (hold down the "Apple" key and the "S" key after the startup chime, and keep holding them down until you are taken to a Terminal-like looking interface, which is UNIX). You can fairly easily...

not able to repair permissions -- what?!?

Hi again Tinroots... To go back to iTunes 6.0.1, make sure you have a copy of it somewhere (not sure Apple still has it on their site), then put version 6.0.2 from your Applications folder into the Trash, and put your 6.0.1 version into the Applications folder - no need to reconfigure anything...

not able to repair permissions -- what?!?

I can recommend the same as "bobw" - I had exactly the problem you (tinroots) described, and the "Disk Management Tool" would crash - but only after installing iTunes 6.0.2; went back to iTunes 6.0.1 - problem solved. patrice http://www.patriceschneider.com/apple-osx/blog/

    Best FTP Client for OSX

Another vote for Transmit and the free/open-source Cyberduck, just in case... ;-) patrice http://www.patriceschneider.com/apple-osx/blog/

    ibook login

You found it? Lucky you... You will most likely have to go to an Apple Store and have them reset the master and/or user password (this can be done using the installation CDs, if memory serves right). patrice http://www.patriceschneider.com/apple-osx/blog/

    chatting programs

to add to "nixgeek": I personally prefer Adium - the great thing is (I think Fire lets you do the same) is that you can be logged into several accounts at the same time (I am, e.g., usually logged into my biz account & my private Yahoo plus my private MSN accounts). And it is freeware...

    Filemaker Pro 7 Security

Hi Aidren Glad I was able to help. I know all about the tunnel vision thing - does happen to me, too... ;-) And thank you for bothering to write a little "thank you" note, which a lot of people don't do, but which is very kind and lets one know that his/her answer did help someone out...

    Filemaker Pro 7 Security

I have seen this problem, not specifically FileMaker Pro related, but I did run into it - after copying some files from a CD to a harddrive. What did the trick was to go to the Finder, locate the file, activate the file (= click it *once*), go to --> File --> Get Info, and then at the bottom...

    Jpeg Questions

Folder Action sounds like a good idea. I would personally do it totally differently (just my 2 cents): using Quicksilver (which any Mac user should have installed), locate the jpg-file you want to open, press Tab, choose "Open With", press Tab, then select "Preview" as the app with which you...

    intallation problem with 10.3.2

Inserting the CD is good, restarting the machine too - but after you hear the startup chime you have to PRESS THE "C" KEY on your keyboard so the computer will actually start from the CD-ROM! (Keep the key pressed until you can actually see the OS starting from the CD, then release the key.)...

Start up problems with G3 and 10.4

Not 100 % sure myself, but since DiskWarrior says "not enough disk space" is it possible that your harddrive is simply full, like 99 %??? You did try Target Mode with FireWire, didn't you? If so, I'd recommend doing the usual like File System Check running in Single User Mode, etc. If...

    Desktop icon

FYI (in case anybody is interested and/or didn't know): those cats are good-luck symbols - and supposed to bring money/fortune... You'll see them all over shops and businesses in Asia... (I got one too... running on a battery, so the raised arm keeps waving the money to come in... :-))...

Hard Drive whistle...on its way out?

Hi there. Cannot give you an answer re the sounds your drive is making; but it would also make me worry, of course. I definitely recommend to back everything up asap. Carbon Copy Cloner has got a good reputation, but some people do prefer SuperDuper (free version works well, with only a few...

    My Title Bar icons disappeared

Mat: iBook G3 or iBook G4? I don't want to jump the gun or make you worry too badly, but the crazy flickering pixels does unfortunately sound very much like the logic board failure a lot of the G3 iBooks had (and some of the G4s too!)... I had the problem six times... Apple exchanged the logic...

Is it possible to put a link to the Sound Pref Pane in the menu bar?

Hi JPigford... I tried making an Alias of the Sounds Preference Panel - which OS X 10.4.4 won't let you do. One thing it lets you do is add it to the Sidebar (go to Library/PreferencePanes/ & choose Sound.prefPane, then from the File Menu (top left of your screen), selet "Add to Sidebar"...

    Quick time

Thought I'll post this in this thread... On the main Downloads page on Apple.com, OS X 10.4.3 is listed, as is Quick Time 7.0.3 - but OS X 10.4.4 and Quick Time 7.0.4 will only show up when you actually do a search on the site... Interesting thing is also that they posted a utility that...
