    What's up with Services

You know, Carbon isn't inferior to Cocoa. They're both about equal, except that I can dig up my OS 8 program, make some minimal changes, and poof, instant Carbonized OS X software. If you want to see a service work, highlight some text and select "Make Sticky." I don't know if it's supposed...

    DNS errors

Ok, let me get this straight: Are you having trouble with DNS lookups, pinging, or both? I'll assume: you have a Mac OS X machine that isn't networking correctly. On the same network, other computers running Win98/NT, Classic Mac OS, etc. work fine. Your internet access is via a computer...

XP & OS X Easy Networking?

And about the SGI .. I assume you mean that you'd be plugging in the SGI into another port in your hub, and sharing files? Sure, no problem. Install Samba, or configure it; might already be there. I personally don't like the samba client too well, but it makes a great server.

XP & OS X Easy Networking?

If they are both connected to the hub, then it's no problem. Open OS X's Network Utility (or whatever it's called) and ping the IP address of the XP box. If you can do that then you're fine. 1. Turn on file sharing in XP & share a folder or something. Set it to Share Level access control...

    home MacOS/MacOSX/Win98 network

You probably need a hub unless you have a multi-port router. If you really have a router (not a hub, some people get these confused), then it's really easy: just plug your cable modem into the uplink port, and plug in your other machines into the router's other ports. If the router only has...

    my lil' iBook hates CD-R's

Are you closing the CDR session on your PC? That's the most common culprit for this sort of thing, unless you're using CD-RW's. Does it still read 'em in OS 9? - seth -
