    Aargh my eyes !

I have to say that in my experience(brief, limited) with OSX, brightness hasn't been a problem. Either on a crt or on the powerbook's lcd. I don't ever use the little contrast and brightness buttons built into my powerbook, but since they're there, I suspect that some folks might. I also...

    Powerbook G3 Series 1998 Problems

It's the right bay! I remember with linuxppc, it couldn't find anything in the left bay(floppy). I have no idea why, but virtualpc can't find it either. Hopefully the final will have support for the left bay!

    Classic

Yes, that is how it's supposed to work! after it loads up, it'll disappear, but there will be a new icon on the dock, with an orange 9 on it. The classic apps appear to run right on the osx desktop! You can also fire up the Process Viewer, and look for "TruBlueEnvironment". If that's...

    HFS+ vs UFS?

Cool, thanks. As far as X, aqua, and cocoa apps, is there a performance(speed) gain from using ufs? With UFS, will classic and classic apps run? will it still boot 9 if it's on the same drive? I remember in OSX server, the classic files were on a disk image. Is osx pb the same...

    developer tools

From Darwin, as far as i can tell, you are just getting the cc compiler, and some libs and stuff. From the Apple site, you get a whole bunch of handy apps, like interface builder, etc. Definitely worth the download if you plan to develop for osx.

    Application Menu

if you popup the force-quit window, when classic is running, you can force quit classic, and still use your classic apps. I haven't really tested to see how much ram or cpu it saves, but it does work. I think you have to have at least one classic app open though when you force-quit classic...

    HFS+ vs UFS?

I couldn't find too much on this subject so here it is: What are the pros/cons of each format? I only have access to HFS+. I was thinking of reformatting, and installing just X on UFS, and a minimal 9, with my most used apps. My drive is only 2 gigs, and in os9 shows that i only have...

    File sizes on network

I'll have to try the file sharing extension Monday. My beige g3 is apparenty doing the same. Someone said they couldn't copy a file onto my computer, because I didn't have enough space. (os 9). I was able to copy the file from their computer however. Strange. HFS+ drive, with X and 9 on the...

    Classic

I'm gonna get a reputation for suggesting this for every problem, but has anyone tried to zap their pram? Here's my install so far : powerbook g3 233 - 160 ram, no bs cache, 2gig hfs+ drive, with an existing os 9.0.4, which I've had for a while. It's the 9 that I use everyday. when I first...

    terminal -process complete!????

Have any of you been able to fix the "process complete" problem? I restarted with the s key, and it seemed fine. I ran fsck to see if it would fix the problem, but when I logged back in, terminal still gave the error. I haven't booted back into it,(it's almost 5 on a Friday) but I'll try it...

    Thoughts on OS-X/UNIX/and MacOS

First, Let me tell everyone about this site that I'm building, It's at http://24.161.35.35/osx/ It's gonna be a osx screenshot post, maybe even a pic-post message board? If you check out the site(there's not much there yet) send me an email and let me know of any features you think I should add...

    Powerbook G3 Series 1998 Problems

I'm not sure if you can boot off the exp bay drive. I think I read that on apple's site, or here, I can't remember. I had a weird question mark when I first installed ( powerbook g3 series 233 - internal factory 2gig), and I zapped my pram, and it worked. Did you try playing with the...

problems making a back-up of my OS X cd....

As far as I can tell, There are lots of hidden files in OSX. When you do a select all, and copy the files over, os 9 doesn't copy the invisible files. You could try it in osx, logged in as root maybe, but I still don't know if it will work. The best thing would be to just do a clean...

problems making a back-up of my OS X cd....

You need to make a disc image, and then burn that. Are you using Toast? If so, choose disc-image from the "Format" pull down. After you've made the image, then drag that onto Toast, and burn the image. This will exactly duplicate the OS X cd. You'll need at least 500-600 megs of free...

Anyone got PHP to work yet?

I have to explain. My installer ins't a package! It's just a copy of my installed apache with the php module, and a shell script. I wanted to see if it works. I tested it on my mac at work, and it went fairly smoothly. It's still asically another hack similar to the Darwin Dev tools hack...

    php-apache without dev tools?!

I just finished putting together a package that installs apache with the php module into your /usr/local/ directory. I made a shell script to install it, and I've tested it at work, on a virgin install. No compiler on the test machine, and it works great. here's the download apache_php...

Some Cool Tricks for OS X!

I think you'd have to import a movie into the pdf, using Acrobat4 or Exchange. I'd keep the panel the same size, and mport your movie so that it is inside the panel. then just save the pdf i guess. Let me know if it works!
