    Halo

This may be old news / entirely irrelevant, but the Halo page on Microsoft's site says it's "xbox only."

    Audio & MIDI

Amen to that... when WILL they appear!?! What's holding them up? The developers... I read a copy of Computer Music the other week (pretty crappy, PC-oriented magazine), in which interviews were conducted with the major software developers, i.e Emagic, Steinberg, Native Instruments and...

Best FTP Client for OS X

Interachy's licensing sucks - avoid. It used to be a really good app, but I think they just got silly with the feature list (a skinnable FTP client...?!?!?!), and they started to get really stupid with upgrades / amounts to pay each time a point release came out. They give shareware a bad name!

    Apple sued over G3 support

There seems to be quite a lot of focus on supporting OpenGL hardware acceleration with regards the older ATI graphics cards used in the earlier iMac models, et al So what happened? In this very forum I remember discussing the fact that neither Apple nor ATI seemed inclined to design OS X...

    blueyonder (ntl UK)

That seems an odd thing to say, given that basically all you need is software to drive your cable modem... ... I guess they mean they won't offer support for Mac users on OS X. In that case, stuff 'em! There are plenty of other broadband ISPs out there... BT Openworld only offer...

Umax scanner Astra 2100u in mac os x?

Yeah, that'd be cool. But I get the impression Umax couldn't really give a toss about Mac users! They just seemed to jump on the iMac bandwagon with their USB range -- I really think the VistaScan software is bad. Looks AWFUL! -- and now cannot be bothered to make the leap to OS X. Still...

Umax scanner Astra 2100u in mac os x?

Heheh, how to open a can o' worms! ;) Umax have been crap about giving out news re OS X drive updates. They told me months ago that OS X drivers "were coming", but that isn't much help. VueScan only works with Umax's SCSI range, so I think you're stuck with Classic for the time being...

    i(Pro)Tools?

Thanks for the response! The hard drive issue is one for me too... though I note that it is possible to upgrade the internal hard drive to something bigger? This site was good when I did my RAM update, and they have notes on how to upgrade the hard drive: theimac.com

    Lindows? Cool

Isn't it basically a tweaked WINE? Or have I got my wires crossed?

    i(Pro)Tools?

I know there was no conflict / court case or anything, but they did reach an agreement about this. Consider the Mac's one-time supremacy in the world of MIDI music making; Atari had a machine with a built-in MIDI port. Apple did not follow suit, partly out of deference to Apple Corp. BTW...

    i(Pro)Tools?

Heheheh, woulnd't that be cool though? No-one else seems inclined to get going with the (finally!) excellent audio architecture in OS X. Well, Emagic look promising, but apart from that... As an aside, whatever happened to the whole Apple (computer) / Apple Corp. (Beatles) issue whereby...

    Which MACINTOSH MUSICsoftware you own?

I'd like to own Logic for X. Or Cubase for X. Or loads of other tools used professionally, which could take advantage of the the superior audio & MIDI functionality built into the core of OS X But none of these exist... the only one that looks like it might is Logic. Tchcoh! It ain't just...

Why the new imac will fail

Heh. Like me in my original post, you're grossly over-simplifying the situation! There is an Apple UK. We're not importing all our Macs from the US and paying appropriate duties etc., Apple computers are imported from Ireland, Taiwan, wherever, like any other consumer product in the UK (very...

Why the new imac will fail

Hey, I'm not dissing the machine -- I think on first glance that Apple have done a great job. I just hate the fact it's so expensive in certain territories when it doesn't have to be!

Why the new imac will fail

Yeah, that would make sense, except AFAIK, Apple have a manufacturing facility in Ireland (certainly that was where my aged iMac was built). No idea if it's still there. But I don't think UK Macs are imported from the US... I could be wrong!

    The G5! - Wow!

Uh, I think chemistry_geek was actually joking! But I am intrigued by this "iBrator" of which you speak... :D

Why does such a small % of the population use Macs?

Hey dinkmeister - what did chemistry_geek say, hmmm??? I'm a long time Mac (home) and PC (work) user. And I'm not rich, so no, cost is not the factor! Oh yeah, eNJF... 2-3% of the population, "pedagogue" type. But I ain't a teacher :D

Why the new imac will fail

:D Jesus wept. I've lived in the US and in the UK, I've studied politics in both countries, I like America and Americans. But... ... the UK is so not a socialist state... ... I haven't seen a Yugo in years, especially not in the UK... ... And as far as CDs go, burn as many as you...

Why the new imac will fail

Well, I just did a straight currency conversion to show how lucky the US guys are! Yup, that's what things come to. OK, so some states have sales tax to go on top of the Apple prices, but I bet that tax isn't nearly 18%!! This has always been the UK's experience with Apple products. For...
