mail.app is wining the arstechnica poll

Entourage is great, I used it for quite a while before mail. And Outlook Express 5 was the best mail app I'd used before I switched to OSX. I got used to Mail pretty quickly though, I'm liking it a lot. The spam filters are very good, I've noticed that they've started to pick up MyDoom emails...

    iPod & .wma is doable...

This was reported a while ago. It doesn't make any difference to Apple's strategy and isn't really surprising given that most of the iPod's features aren't hardwired. Of course we'll just have to see what happens over the next year or so in the marketplace but I wouldn't count on Apple enabling...

    Color iBooks & PowerBooks

That's seriously cool. The iPods aren't too expensive to get done, maybe that's how they hook you in for laptops too. I bet the shipping's probably loads though, didn't manage to find out on the site.

Adobe to make iTMS for stock photography...

Has anyone used istockphoto.com? It's a different concept from usual stock sites but is very good (and cheap). Anyone can upload images to the site providing they pass a certain quality standard and the individual images are also good enough. This means there are a lot of designers and the like...

    Quark 6.1 update

I was dealing with a rather half assed printer the other week who berated me for using InDesign which, acorrding to him was "about as far a way from print as you can get, if you'd used a standard program like Freehand or Photoshop..". Indeed. I didn't choose them of course but I think my...

    iTunes Europe?

Indeed. Maybe they should have gone with the UK and say France and Germany first, then tried to make it Europe wide, it's quite ambitious.

    QuickTime on the go...

The only thing is, Three are rubbish. They don't have any decent handsets yet and their internet access isn't up (and no timeframe the last time I spoke to them). Hopefully by the time I'm due for an upgrade (August), Orange will have their 3G network up and the lovely Sony Ericsson 3G phone...

    Pending Mac Purchase

The G5 will be a better deal if you can afford it. Later on more applications will support dual processors and (eventually) the 64 bit 970 but the big difference is stuff like the much faster bus speed etc. Generally it's good to get the best machine you can afford at the time, you won't have...

    Anti-virus software -- suggestions

The only thing I ever had was some Word macro virii that were fairly easy to get rid of and didn't seem to do anything anyway. My flatmate's laptop has about 2000 infections however. He installed Norton but it deleted a Windows installer file during it's pre-install scan and now he can't install...

Can u defrag on a Mac

Hard Disk Toolkit used to be able to dynamically repartition drives but I'm not sure if there's an OSX version out. I'm sure Google will tell you.

    Impressions of GarageBand

You actually completely misunderstood me, I was talking about looping a chunk of work, not using Apple's audio loops. Thanks for your insight. RTF post. I'm not planning to use GB for anything intensive, I was just noting some stuff that I thought it could do with. As ivanjs said, the loops...

    Impressions of GarageBand

I finally got it and I think I was expecting a bit much. It's quite nice to use, very simple although a bit slow, even compared to proper multitrack s/w like Cubase SX. Admittedly I need to have more of a play with it but there are a few things that are annoying me: looping! How do you do it, if...

Worried there won't be a mac port of Doom3...

I thought that ID has said that Doom 3 was definately being developed for OSX? I can't remember where I read it but I'm sure there will be something on here or on the interweb somewhere.

How do the bluetooth kb/mouse work?

Try eBay, they're quite cheap. The other useful thing Bluetooth allows you to do is sync the numbers/calendar etc on your mobile.

    G4 Tradein Program for G5s

There's been an upgrade thing running here although I think it might have stopped and I don't know how widespread it was (noticed it on scotsys.co.uk but the link seems to have gone).

    Apple acquiring Pixar?

Indeed, they were made by DreamWorks IIRC. The whole article is just speculation and even it seemed to conclude that an Apple/Pixar merger wouldn't be very beneficial. There just didn't seem to be any real facts in there, drawing in the title of a post from a Yahoo forum for example. And it is...

iSync having problems with my T616

That's what I thought, I was wondering if it was something to do with it being a weird version of the T610. The timezone being out would make sense. Worst comes to worst, there's a master reset on your phone which might solve it.

    *Sir* Bill Gates

Yeb, Bob got an honorary knighthood (he's Irish) for the Live Aid stuff. And presumably for his record period of not bathing.

    *Sir* Bill Gates

I read that it looks like a case of Gordon Brown saying, "look at all my important friends". The thing is, to those outside the computing world I don't think it's a big deal given his donations to chairty etc. But to the rest of us (I incude Windows users here), it seems a bit silly. And...

    Is ANYONE doing Bluetooth?

I was using BlueTooth, it's cool, but I can't find my dongle! I had the same problem with the USB port on my keyboard, it should be fine if you use a built in port on your G4. I mostly use BT for syncing numbers etc on my phone (T610), Clicker is cool too.
