Direct ethernet to ethernet OS X to WinXP Pro?

MacOSX.org has a great tutorial on exactly this topic: networking OS X and Windows machines. You can access the tutorial here.

    Jaguar shipping schedule

Pff. College students like me have to pay for tuition. That makes US poorer. :p

    Capturing DVD Screens

Actually, if you have a GeForce card and you download Snapz Pro X (www.ambrosiasw.com), you CAN take screenshots (and even movies) of DVDs running.

    10.0 on 24th - 10.2 on 24th

Yeah, I noticed that too. Isn't Steve Jobs' birthday on February 24th? :D That means 10.2 will be released exactly a year and 5 months after OS X 10.0 was released.

Sick of the Apple switch commercials

Like Mac OS X, not many people use the latest version of Windows. So, Apple is still giving facts in their commercials, not myths.

    Remote Control (iPod)

From your iPod, you should get AT LEAST a 10 hour battery life when fully charged. If not, you are having the same problem I had, and should take it in to an Apple Store or call Apple tech support. If this IS the problem, Apple will probably replace it for free like they did with mine.

Anyone at Macworld testing out 10.2?

I got a brief look at Jaguar at the Palo Alto Apple Store (see this thread). While I didn't have TOO much time to look at it, it definitely looked awesome. I don't know if it lives up to its hype (since I didn't use it very long), but as I said, it definitely looked awesome. :) Post any...

    Snap shot

This doesn't work for me, either. I think this was an OS 9 feature, though. By the way, ElDiablo: the key commands for copying screenshots to the clipboard is with the CONTROL key, not the option key. So you would press Command-Control-Shift-3 to copy a screenshot to the clipboard, and...

Mail is really below Apple standards

Mail.app doesn't crash here, either. And while it gets a lot of really long, complicated words wrong, 99% of the words I use it flags correctly and suggest the correct spelling when I get it wrong. I find it to be actually very useful. Mail.app 1.2 (in Jaguar) will be VERY nice with the...

    iPod 20GB is the thickest???

azosx: It's basically a trackpad like on laptops and stuff. You use it exactly the same way, except that it doesn't actually move. It seems like it would be much nicer, because it's not as vulnerable to dirt/other stuff, and there are no moving parts, but the downsides are the same as for...

Help in installing a command line utility.

D'oh. Isn't there a simple way to change the configuration of the binaries to run on a PPC-based FreeBSD system? It seems like it would be trivial, to me. But whatever... Where can I get gnuplot? Does it run on VMS? And doesn't work with perl? EDIT: By the way, does Mac OS X use...

Help in installing a command line utility.

I have this graphing utility called dislin, which is scientific data plotting software. It seems to be pretty nice (and the reason I need is for perl to be able to graph stuff on the web using a VMS machine, and it seems that this might work!). They have a free BSD version which I wanted...

    Remote Control (iPod)

It is actually $39 for both the HEADPHONES and the remote. $39 for the case is correct, though. I need new headphones for my new iPod (got my 5 giger replaced for free because it had bad battery life), and so I will be getting the new ones when they come out. Yay for the remote! That will...

17" iMac, OS X 10.2 at Palo Alto Apple Store!

IE is MICROSOFT'S problem, not Apple's. Finder windows, and browsers like OmniWeb resize pretty well as it is without Quartz Extreme. IE is just crap.

    Bad feelings...

You don't HAVE to use iTunes if you don't want to. You don't HAVE to use iMovie if you don't want to. You don't HAVE to use iDVD if you don't want to. You don't HAVE to use iPhoto if you don't want to. You don't HAVE to use iCal if you don't want to. You don't HAVE to use iSync if you don't...

17" iMac, OS X 10.2 at Palo Alto Apple Store!

No.. but Finder window resizing was super-smooth.. of course, resizing in IE was STILL dog-slow (figures as much.. I should have done Apple a favor and downloaded & installed OmniWeb :p ).

    Rant about ranting

btoneill, you have said so elegantly what I was trying to say in the Mac News & Rumors Discussion. People must understand that Apple needs to make money, and all this web hosting and e-mail is not free. Again, thank you for just coming out and saying it like it is. (One thing I would like...

    Graphing module for perl?

Does anybody know of any module for perl that is decent enough to make graphs from x-y coordinates? I found a great one that looks like exactly what I need, but you need to install tons of extras to perl, and I don't particularly want to do that. Plus, what I install/create must be able to...

You CAN create multi-session CDs with Mac OS X, no additional software required!

I'm on my mom's iBook, so I don't want do any modifications (and I don't have a CD-R on hand here at work, either), but it looks like some of the users over at www.macosxhints.com may have found a solution. In ~/Library/Preferences/ , find the file called "com.apple.DiskCopy.plist". Open it...

    Virus protection? Come On!

Personally, I think .Mac is worth it, and I'm not a newbie Mac user. I would REALLY LIKE the 100 MB of iDisk space (chemistry_geek: some of us DO have broadband connections, you know), and having 15 MB of e-mail space will be really nice too. Every once in a while I get a large attachment and...
