    .Mac Petition

azosx: Get a life. Just because Apple starts charging for a free service doesn't mean you have to switch platforms. And you know why .Mac is worth it? Because I don't have to lug around a FireWire drive. I don't have to make sure that the computer I'm working on has FireWire ports. I can...

    MPEG2 playback functionality!

I was looking at the discounted prices for the Apple Store for Education today, and I noticed that Apple has a downloadable component available for QuickTime 6 on Mac OS X that allows MPEG-2 playback! Yay! Unfortunately, because of royalties on the decoder, this component costs $20 even with...

Mac OS X 10.2 are there but...

I dunno about you, but I still have only paid $129, and that includes the price of the public beta. $30 -- public beta $99 -- OS X 10.0 with public beta discount $0 -- OS X 10.1 upgrade CD (reburned to make a full CD) OS X 10.2 is a major upgrade with many new features, and is worth the...

cmd shift 4 - screen capture question

Actually, the functionality is there. You just need to know the secret shortcut. :) Press Command-Control-Shift-4, select an area, and voilà! The selected area screenshot is now in your clipboard! This also works for Command-Control-Shift-3. By the way, you should hear a different kind...

    .Mac Petition

I agree. I have no complaints with the overall price, and I actually intend to buy at least the first year. But I think Apple should keep e-mail free (at least a 5 MB account). By the way, it would've been nice if we could make comments on the signatures. And it would've been nice to have...

    iPod Software Updater?

Well, I think I actually got lucky, in a way. For the past few weeks, my iPod has been getting 5 hour battery life. It seems that this is a relatively common problem, because I took it in to the Palo Alto Apple Store, and after doing a battery reset (which didn't solve the problem), they are...

NO .Mac services for free (official)

So you'd go back to Windows because of your "lack of confidence" in Apple?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. That's the funniest thing I've heard in the flurry of posts here on MacOSX.com. Seriously. I mean, sheesh. Apple said that there would be MPEG-2 playback in QT6. It's not there. OMG MY...

No matter what Apple releases, no one is ever satisfied.

All in due time, ksv, all in due time. Plus, you don't need that extra power just for an Apple PDA, do you? ;)

Woo hoo hoo! "Clean install" back in OS X 10.2!

Just take a look at this page!: http://www.apple.com/macosx/jaguar/morefeatures.html Look under the "Interface Improvements" heading, look at the left column, 2 bullet points above the bottom. Woo hoo hoo! Does that mean that Apple unified all the system resources into one folder...

At MWSF, there were Adobe potshots. Today at MWNY, there were Microsoft potshots.

"Everybody's jumping on the MPEG4 bandwagon..... well, except for maybe Microsoft." -- Steve Jobs "Where do you think we got the name '.Mac'? *chuckle* From Microsoft's ".Net" intiative. Well, at least we KNOW how to do internet services. We are actually DELIVERING." -- Steve Jobs...

No matter what Apple releases, no one is ever satisfied.

From the keynote, it just looks like iCal is much more intuitive than Palm Desktop. It's just the overall single window "playlist" style thing that I really like and that Apple's got me sold on. Actually, there were a lot of people predicting that this would be Mac OS X 10.5. I just wanted...

No matter what Apple releases, no one is ever satisfied.

When looking over this site, the majority of comments I see about this keynote is the $100/year charge ($50/year for the first year if you are an existing iTools member) for .Mac . NOT ONCE have I seen somebody mentioning iCal or iSync in a post, besides mine. This is sad. iCal ROCKS, from...

Mac OS X 10.2 are there but...

Upgrade coupons from the immediate previous version of Mac OS X always apply, I believe. You will get a $30-$50 discount with them when you buy OS X 10.2. That's usually how Apple does things like this -- hopefully they'll continue to do the same.

    New Switch ads hilarious

At least three new switcher ads played at the beginning of the keynote (and one new one put up on the Switch site today): They were hilarious! One was a girl who was a student talking about how she lost a really good paper she wrote. The expression on her face when she described it was just...

    iPod Software Updater?

Is it out yet? Or did Apple just announce it at the keynote? Or are they not updating the firmware on existing iPods?

    Official MacWorld Keynote Discussion Thread

[/B] Sheesh. Apple introduces tons of new software, introduces a great iMac widescreen edition with a GeForce 4MX card and a super-high resolution 17-inch flatpanel screen, demonstrates an awesome upgrade to Mac OS X and all you can say is its disappointing (probably solely because of the...

NO .Mac services for free (official)

The mac.com services are down temporarily, but your e-mail will STILL WORK until September 30. Apple is not doing anything drastic like cutting out mail service immediately. THAT would be outrageous. I still don't know what to think about the subscription cost, though. But, I do know one...

    .Mac rip off - Feedback

That is correct. Apple will be dropping iTools as we know it and introducing .Mac. No free services whatsoever. If Apple was smart, they'd include a .Mac membership with every new Mac. I think I'm probably gonna pay $100/year though. The 100 MB iDisk space will be very nice. I...

I just wanted to let everyone know that..

Hell no! An extended warrantee is VERY good. I've had a couple of problems in the last year with my cube that probably would've cost upwards of $100 (labor and parts) if I didn't have the extended warrantee. Plus, you get three years of free technical support, whereas you only get 90 days...

    Question about "awk"

howardm4: I'm gonna poke your brain again. I am reading through OReilly's "Learning Perl" book (very good, btw... now I actually UNDERSTAND perl and its regular expressions). I'm trying to modify the perl prog this time so that it matches anything within the parentheses and then INCLUDES...
