Funny that you should say that. :)

Synergy - Keyboard and Mouse Control

I have never used Synergy for iTunes, though the keyboard switcher is a personal favorite. Synergy makes it much easier to work across 4 (or more) systems at the same time without switching keyboards. I have been using it for switching between Windows and Linux boxes for a couple years and now...

    Virtue - Virtual Desktop

An alternative to Desktop Manager is Virtue (VersionTracker Link) Virtue and Desktop Manager look and act very similarly, the Virtue author openly admits to using Desktop Manager as inspiration. But Virtue took the concept a bit further. Virtue allows you to have custom wallpaper for each...

    Apple's recent lawsuits

Standard disclaimer IANAL nor do I play one on TV. Everything below is my opinion and not necessarily fact. I have done some research since I am under so many NDAs that I sometimes wonder if I can go to the bathroom without violating at least one clause. I have an active interest in law as it...

    QuickSilver

I will add my vote to the pile. QuickSilver defines the Mac experience for me. If it were not for this little app I probably would have relegated my Mac to a secondary system and gone back to Linux. It is a wonderful app in that it starts out simple and the more you use it the more features...

serious help choosing (cinema) display for my G5..

I wonder when the Dell monitor will actually become available for sale. I must admit I am tempted.

    Apple's recent lawsuits

I think you are reading too much into this. The leak is not some plebe, but I doubt he is highly placed. To leak the information that Apple is up in arms about the leak has to be inside the design team or have access to the design specs at some level. That does narrow down the scope to people...

    Apple's recent lawsuits

Then they will have an approximate location, which narrows down the subject some. If they have the original emails they will also know all documents leaked, which might help based upon who has access. Writing patterns of the email as well, and perhaps the informant was just plain stupid and...

How could a person justify an iPod purchase in the workplace

Not to be argumentative but if someone is trying to get the office to buy an iPod for them, should they not already have a purpose in mind? For most of the uses above there are better, less expensive options. Are there legitimate reasons for an iPod in the workplace? Yes, but if you have...

    Impossible discovery

Cool, glad I could help. What version of Toast do you use by the way. I have Toast 6 Titanium but never bothered to install it because I have not had a need for it yet. Now I am sort of wondering if I should at all.

    I heard a rumour

Because it is supported by LaCie, not Apple. Disc Burning shows up as "Vendor Supported" in System Profiler. I have no reason to expect it not to be supported, it just is not yet. This makes sense since Tiger has not been released yet. LaCie has lobbied for quite some time for vendor supported...

    Nokia announces Microsoft tie-up...

It is his opinion and he is emphatic about it. Is there a need to confront Randman on a matter of semantics? For most things there is no true absolute best product, this is a given. You are baiting him for no reason that I can determine.

    Apple's recent lawsuits

I am with Mr. Caca on this one. While it may not seem "nice", if Apple does not take steps to at least attempt to enforce the NDAs which have been violated this will happen over and over. Further ThinkSecret in particular is not exactly as pure as driven snow. Actively requesting for others...

    Still can't mount NFS...

I have read that Mac OS X NFS code is not reliable, but never in a reasoned fashion. Mostly people ranting about how "OS X sucks because <blank>." So it is hard to separate out the valid comments from the flame bait. In the 2.4 series there was a problem with the lockd Daemon and NFS v3...

    Still can't mount NFS...

OK, cool. Just checking. I agree it does not appear to be the problem, it is an issue you should be aware of though. I had to deal with it due to a firewall between my AIX NFS share and a Slack 10.0 box a year or so back which is basically how I figured out what little I know on the...

    I heard a rumour

On the other hand my LaCie DVD burner now works so I am happy. I just hope it continues to work in Tiger.

    Still can't mount NFS...

NFS ports are not static. 111 handles Sun RPC (for the portmapper) and 2049 for the daemon. It will then assign a port for the connection. Do you have a firewall running? Alternatively you might try a -2 or -3 switch but I doubt that will make a difference. Also not a big deal but why...

    Impossible discovery

Do you have Toast installed? There are a few reports from a while back of Toast removing some QuickTime support files and similar errors coming up. The error messages seem consistent with this. I do not know how to fix it but that might give you a direction to search if you have Toast...
