    nobody got any idea? :(

    Some changes for 10.3

Right, quick, before I forget: 12. Aliases the same as unix symlinks. 'Classic' aliases abolished. Surely this is just an API thing. A couple of things changed, the developer doesn't notice any difference, except that aliases are now symlinks. All apps behave the same as they did...done. Now...

    Some changes for 10.3

ok! Well, i'm a student at UH in sunny England. I use OS X for much stuff including casual development (PHP, python), couple of games, audio sequencing, general internet stuff, and Before December of last year, I was on Windows and Linux, so most of my proposed improvements relate to the...

    Some changes for 10.3

OK, fair point. I guess I'm just used to the Windows way of working (dec-2002 switcher). Many apps, however, don't behave predictably. You are right, though: that ain't an OS thing no more. In Windows, it is. I'm sure I had something else to add. SCP would be nice in the same vein as the...

    Some changes for 10.3

I don't think i've seen these much in this list. These either haven't been mentioned, or i agree with strongly: 1a. Better afp/smb browsing and usage. Navigating a largish peer-to-peer network of smb shares is quite frankly awful. I know the current method is basically a graphical off-shoot...

    Extending OS X's 'Locations'

Hi all, I wondered if there was any way to extend the functionality of the 'Location' setting in OS X. I use it extensively at the moment, as i'm always on the move with my iBook, and it'd be great to be able to run a shell script or AppleScript when I change location. Any help much appreciated!

    OS X and File Types

Okley-dokley... I must say I much prefer the central database thing - this Resource Fork business sounds a little shady to me - I like to have all the data there where I can see it, and as you say, it gets lost when you try to use other filesystems... Thanks for all the info, people!

    OS X and File Types

Hello all, I'm an ex-windows user (and i'm thanking my stars i decided to Switch :-), and i think all my main mac questions have been answered, but for one: how does OS X handle file types and which application they are associated with? It seems to me like the particle-wave duality - one minute...

iTunes and OGG not happy :(

Not a linux thing!!! (oh dear) OGG is 'just' another audio compression format. It's just that it happens to produce smaller files than MP3 for the same (or sometimes higher) quality, and is completely free of patents, royalties and other stuff. Have a look here for anything i've missed...

iTunes and OGG not happy :(

Ok, i got the OGG plugin/component/whatever for QuickTime from the by-now-probably-well-known http://www.illadvised.com/~jordy/ . All is well in Quicktime, but when i use iTunes to play OGGs, there appear little gaps in the music, like someone's censoring out all the naughty words! Quicktime had...

    Docklings Crash

Aww that's a shame! they're such nifty things... Any idea why they're not supported?

    Docklings Crash

Hey all, I got a couple of docklings from www.aquafiles.com and installed them- the Quitling, the Network Moniter and the Vanity Dockling. That's all probaly irrelevant, cos all docklings seem to crash. They load, and I get one go of the right-click menu when they stop responding. I can drag...

    PHP help please...

wrong - you were right first time! but if you're going to do it all on one line, use either <?php echo "Hello World!"; ?> or <?="Hello World!"?> which does exactly the same thing, but is more readable for the one line thing.

why would someone want such an old mac?

Who ain't a geek?! Old hardware is beautiful, man. Clearly you're not going to use yr Mac II for yr latest huge audio project, but that ain't the point! We shall remember them, those that get chucked so carelessly in the rubbish heap by people who want the best, latest thang. *Sigh* This guy...
