Poll: What UNIX shell do you use?

Yep, I know that there is the emacs mode on ksh. But I use the vi mode as it i actually know more vi commands than emacs ones (I've never remembered those bizarre CTRL-x-y combinations). On a terminal-only session, vi-fingers-on-kb-mode is elegant, but I always do terminal-browser-jEdit...

2 Letter Searches on this site

There could be a filter for common two-letter words. I can think of a few UNIX CLI words... - vi (UNIX standard editor) - cc (compiler) - ln (soft and hard links) ... and the list goes on infinitely a rule could be added that it is only searched as a whole word and only if it's on...

Poll: What UNIX shell do you use?

You could post a real 'poll' thread. FWIW I generally use tcsh, easier to learn and very fast. Bash is not bad. I shy away from ksh, it's designed to be like vi, and it theory it helps not to move your fingers away from the keyboard to do everything. That's a flawed concept with...

Any CSE majors or Comp. Engineers out there?

I have completed a CS degree this last January, an european degree like a Major and stuff. Digital Design fundamentals is not really the most difficult subject out there in CS... Try out abstract stuff like Turing machines and compiler design to get the hang of it but I digress. I did DD...

    non-USA XFree86 keymappings

How does one change the keymapping on XonX? I am trying to use a Spanish keyboard that otherwise works flawlessly but trying to set the keymap to 'Espanol.keymapping does not even come close to recognizing the keys. I suppose this happens to any non-USA keyboard as well. thanx in...

    OSX and M$ Exchange Server

I have added our exchange server to the search domains of both os9 and osX. I have also upgraded to 9.2.1 (and also to get rid of those annoying classic startup messages). It still refuses to connect, even thought it only refuses when you have correctly entered user and passwd information...

    Outlook 2001 under Classic Mode

Yep, I've done that already, and the name was underlined (and expanded-completed) by the server. After that, you are presented with a login panel that fails that way. By domain does it refer to DNS name of the exchange server? dani++

    Outlook 2001 under Classic Mode

MS Outlook 2001 (Exchange client) doesn't work for me on Classic mode (9.1), Apple Menu items off, MacOSX 10.1.1. It tells me the MS Exchange server is unavailable, I am connecting via TCP/IP and I can ping the server. Have you configured it with any special parameters? dani++

    OSX and M$ Exchange Server

I am also trying to use MS Outlook 2001 under Classic (9.1.1) and it doesn't crash at all. The login window dialog shows up (asking user, passwd and 'domain'). As a domain I use the DNS name of the exchange server here. It seems to work but afterwards it says that the MS Exchange Server is...

    10.1 dropping network

I experience sudden total connection outages on my 10.1.1 G4. The strangeness of it all, its on a permanent LAN connection to the Internet. Never had a problem before. The outages are so far seemingly random... will post if some more insight is found.

    Tomcat 4 on osx

You must set the environment variable JAVA_HOME to the location of the java runtime and stuff. I was able to easily install and run TOMCAT 4 on MacOSX. I think it must point to /usr or something like that. Read the instructions more carefully (RTFM) dani++
