    Apple: Webbriddle on Apple.com

There's actually six images if you do as the post above advises. The last one has some kind of puzzle on it to do with numbers.

any way to decrease startup times in 10.2??

When I first installed Jaguar I did it by upgrading and I too thought that the apple screen seemed to stick around for ages when booting. For various reasons I decided to re-install Jaguar doing a full install with a re-format. Since then I'm sure boot up is quicker (haven't actually timed...

    The Ink Thread!

A' ha! Dumping the prefs seemed to do the trick! This post was done using Inkwell. I think it works quite well. Not too sure how to do linebreaks yet though!

    The Ink Thread!

Ugh! I was going to write a post using my wacom tablet and inkwell but inkwell seems to have died! The prefpanes says it's on but nothing is happening when I start scrawling away on the tablet! What gives? It did used to work and wasn't half bad at recognising my scribbles. I can't...

I have the same problem you had. I have my old pre 10.2 library folder backed up so I thought I'd try just copying the addresses folder into my nice clean new library folder. Nothing happended though when I ran Address Book - nothing got imported. D'oh. Do you know what other files might...

    help with web server config

What's the IP and domain you are using? I'll see what I can see from my end. Might point out a problem, might not - can't hurt to try.

    Which Mac should I buy?

I had looked at that thread and it didn't really get into any specifics of using the machine for the tasks I mentioned. It seems to just go on about version numbers and the installation process. I was kinda hoping for more detail on real world use to see if anyone was doing what I wanna do...

Instant Messaging, Voice Chat on X?!

Yeah, I've just being using the new Yahoo beta to view my borther's (PC) webcam - that part works pretty well. No voice as far as I can see though. Perhaps in the final version - after beta?

    Which Mac should I buy?

OK mac community, help me decide which shiny new Mac should be my next machine. I currently have an ancient G3 300mhz/320mb Ram machine - the beige AV one. I've had it 4 years (I think). I wanna use the shiny new machine for the following... Web Development (Tomcat, JSP, Apache...

    Test your real-world machine speed...

Oh dear, oh dear.... Typical: 262.5 MIPS Integer: 557.1 MIPS My poor old 300mhz G3 (320mb) Ask me again when I've splashed some cash on the new power Mac's hopefully coming soon. I have the money to spend, don't let me down Apple!

How about this in the new macs?

What are the chances of getting one of these babies in the new PowerMacs? http://mirror.ati.com/companyinfo/press/2002/4523.html Slim, unlikely, or no chance?

RCA audio ports on beige G3

I've just decided to get back into making strange noises (music) with my Mac and have hit a problem. My RCA ports seem to be getting ignored by OS X. Back in the day on OS 8.6 I used to pipe my Roland MC-303 through my Mac into my stereo (303 out to mac RCA in / mac RCA out to stereo RCA...

    Pinot

I agree with Hobeaux! If they jump ahead too quick (i.e. 10.2 to 10.5) then we get to the problematic XI that bit quicker. OS eleven just doesn't sound (or look) as good as the big fat X and 'ten'. I reckon it will be 0.1 upgrades all the way for ages. (well at most ten of them anyway!).

The Coming War is Gonna Be Ugly Folks

It's this kind of problem that means loads of people are still using OS 8 or 9 and haven't upgraded to X yet. I come from a print/prepress background and the people I used to work with are still using OS 9 - basically on the theory that if it's not broke, don't fix it. With money at stake...

limiting cpu usage on individual apps

Thanks for your responses guys. I did have a play with nice/renice as I recalled it existed after posting my message (and indeed did have a peek at the man pages.) Didn't have a great deal of effect but then I didn't really open up a load of apps/tasks to test it out fully. It perhaps did...

    important iTunes install info

Same here! I wondered what was going on - I had indeed clicked 'check sound levels' so now all is explained. I've only got a few hundred meg of mp3's so didn't take too long.

limiting cpu usage on individual apps

Watching iTunes eat up large chunks of my CPU usage when playing (often 25-30%) I got to wondering if it was possible to limit CPU usage on an app by app basis. Then I thought, hmmm - this smells like something some obscure UNIX command can probably do. I guess in the case of iTunes it...

I hope Mozilla and Netscape die a horrible death.

Are you being serious? That almost sounds like Homer Simpson speaking! That's not flexibility - that's just chaos! HTML is a language and like any language it depends on rules. Take away the rules and all you have is meaningless jumble. Now, I appreciate short-cuts and 'slang' might be...

I hope Mozilla and Netscape die a horrible death.

We are angry with Netscape aren't we? Whilst I'd happily jump up and down on the dead body of netscape 4 - I have to disagree with you about netscape 6.2 / mozilla 1.0. In many case they are better than Internet Explorer v4,5, or 6. One simple example: I've been working on a page with...
