    Disabling firewall

I've been toying recently with Brickhouse, and now I do not seem to be able to disable the firewall... It will load at every startup (taking at least 20 sec), and it will block ANY connection until I manualy stop it. The strangest part is that when I open brickhouse, it says the firewall is off...

    port-forwarding via ssh

I know this should be in the UNIX forum, but it simply gets too little traffic... so here is my problem: I'm connected to my university's network via SSH; in order to access my mails via IMAP (instead of the dreadful PINE), I need to etablish a "tunnel" via ssh connecting my port 143 to the...

    Quick question on networking

-ethernet requires a router. 280 € -AirPort requires two cards. 290 € For that matter, my magnificient firewire setup requires a 20-meter cable (400 € shipped from the US) or a firewire-ethernet adaptator (if they exist). SO, I'm stuck with either my plugging/unplugging or having my two...

    Quick question on networking

http://www.unibrain.com/products/ieee-1394/firenet.htm Actualy, its not a freeware, its even pretty expensive: 78$ for two comps. They propose a demo version which gives you 30 min of network after each rebout. BTW, checked around the net and a 20 meter firewire cable cost a whooping 350 $...

    Quick question on networking

No idea why, no idea what I did different, but this time DNS is working!!! (client is accessing it directly). My setup works fine now :) (and speed is excellent, I have both listening to a web radio @128 kb and its streaming perfectly. Well, that leaves me with the cable problem...

    Quick question on networking

Fist, FireNet is a piece of software which I strongly suspect is little more than a GUI front-end for UNIX settings (at least the OSX version). Physicaly, all I am using is a cable from one port to the other. For the DNS, I tried setting the client iMac to go directly to my ISP's DNS server...

gNAT - software base station OK but no DNS ?

It's not working though... Oh, and also tried getting my client comp to connect to a third-party DNS server, still does not work. The third-party server does work with the comp doing the routing. Very strange.

    Quick question on networking

Using FireNet... it works great, speed is EXCELLENT (x2 a 100 mbit ethernet connection, at least), and both macs takes it for an ethernet connection :D But I still have two problems... -DNS does not work on the second mac. IE, it has access to the Internet, but only via IP... which mean it's...

gNAT - software base station OK but no DNS ?

Dont tell me there is no solution but to wait for a fix! I have been struggling with setting up a shared connection over firewire (internal) and ethernet (external), using IPNetShare for routing. After a lot of toying around, it works... bar the DNS. Which basicaly mean it's useless...

    Quick question on networking

I have both iMacs side by side connected via a short firewire cable as a test setup. The one under OSX is connected to internet via cable and is supposed to do the routing. Using IPNetShareX (ex Gnat), I've enabled it (well, supposedly) to do the routing. Now, how must I setup the other comp...

How to install Mac Os X in my Pc

I can only see two ways for you to do this: -Program your own OSX for Intel -Break in Steve's office in Cupertino, open the safe labelled "ultra-secret" and find the rumoured alpha version of OSX for Intel (if it exists of course) Good Luck, Kinniken

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

I'm going to try that setup by moving the iMacs next to each other and connecting them with a small cable I have. I will need help with setting the router up though....

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

The reason I believe I need an adaptater is simply because my two comps are 20-25 meters apart, and I do not know if it is possible to find such long firewire cables. Never seen any.

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

So all I now need to do is to find an adptater... which in itself might be a bit difficult. I strongly suspect its not a very common bit of hardware. Of course, it will also mean I will have two cables running inside the house (the iMac under OSX is the one away from the cable modem), though...

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

as you guessed from my Avatar... I have his statue in my room (my av is a photo of it). And my brother has 7 clay Ganesh in his. ***Kinniken goes ask them what they think of firewire-ethernet adaptator

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

I would be willing to pay almost anything for "oness of the Universe", but I'm willing to pay 100 € to share my Internet connection. What's the point? And its not a question of savings either, I have 280 € which I could use to buy a router right now. I just find that's too much for...

    Bookmarking terminal commands

or, to be more precise, the terminal seems to forget all the bookmarks everytime I quit it, which sort of makes the whole thing pointless... any ideas?

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

90 $, 100 € If I see a router at that price, I jump on it. Since that would require a 60% price drop, lets get back to the latest miracle solution... ethernet/firewire. This one looks cool, since the only thing I would need to buy would be the adaptater itself, and it look to my newbs eyes...

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

Every time I think i have it solved, somebody dash it, and every time I've given up, someone else comes with a miracle solution... :p A firewire-ethernet adaptator is an interesting idea, but to be honestly I do not see how it would work... isnt firewire master/slave based? How could I...
