Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

I had understood I could do it via the same port... getting a second one is out. Well, so its either a router or I go on plugging/unplugging cables all the time like I do now... :(

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

Those are iMacs remember.... On preventing the second computer from directly accessing my ISP, well there must be a way to prevent it from doing no? Since all this is only needed during holidays, I would realy like to avoid buying a 280€/250$ router...

I'll go and buy a hub monday. I might need help for the setup, both for OSX (the router) and OS9 (the routed). Or will brickhouse do all that for me?

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

135 Û + shipping costs is more than I can spend though... For the other option (using a hub), I feel a bit stupid: if I choose to do this, there is no obligation for the comp physicaly near the hub & cable modem to do the routing, is there? For if there is none, I can have my comp running OSX...

    Autoupdating & moved apps

The reckless would be to use Synk to syncronise both folders... if any files were supposed to get deleted by the updater, I'm screwed. An other way would be to get someone to send them to me =) I need: -Mail -Image Capture -Print Center TIA, Kinniken

    Autoupdating & moved apps

I keep my apps in "catergory" folders inside the "applications" folder; for example, mail is located in applications/Internet. When I updated to 10.1.2, the updater created folders named "mail"and "image capture" inside my application folder; in them I found a "content" folder, and plenty of...

Connecting two iMacs & a cable modem

3 choice: -AirPort. Cool, modern, no cable BUT way too expensive. This one is out. -A router. Was my first idea, and you all seem to agree its the best. I have one problem though: cost. The router you recomend me may be worth 80 $ in the US, but in France they ship for 280 €!!!! (300$) Even...

Governmant is now asking Public to propose a settlment for the M$ antitrust case!!!

It's more realist that your other solution... AdmiralAK, your idea of forbiding Windows on OEM is good, but it will get kicked down as bad for the consumer, which it is in the short term anyway. For file format, I would go for the obligation to explain the file format so other apps can import...

    Messaging from a new iMac!

First, as long as floppies are formatted for DOS, it will work fine. However, if you want to show your students how cool macs are, get them to burn their docs on CD... its faster, safer and can hold a lot more data. What is more, if a CD is not full you can alway use it again... I use one to...
