Mounting Windows NT/2000 Volumes in OS X

kenny, put the ip address and hostname in your /etc/hosts file and you'll be fine.

Accessing Windows drives etc on 10.1?

Seconds later something clicks... You'll have to forgive me, I'm a Solaris Engineer, not an NT Administrator, so I'm a little slow sometimes. Even though the NT share is open to everyone, you still have to log into the domain to access it. I punched in *my* username/password for the domain...

Accessing Windows drives etc on 10.1?

I was unable to get afp or smb to work using an IP address. Our NT system names are in WINS, not DNS. Something everyone should take note about. When I put the remote system name into my host file and then try to access it using the name, it worked. Suddenly I was prompted for a domain, username...

    SSH issues on 10.1

FredrickI, You should have 0x0090602f. Is it possible your version of ssh is the one from before 10.1? Do a 'which ssh' and then a 'ssh -V'. There should only be one ssh (usr/bin/ssh) and the version should be 2.9p2 built with the version of OpenSSL listed above. My suspicion is that you are...

    SSH issues on 10.1

FredrikI, did you install OpenSSL separately? Do a 'which openssl'. You may have installed OpenSSL prior to the 10.1 upgrade. I don't have my OSX system handy, so I can't confirm where Apple installs OpenSSL, but if you get two paths back, that might be your problem. Either delete the older...

WTF is up with my mouse in 10.1?

I'm right there with you. The mouse jerks, twitches and moves too slowly. I'm actually going to bail on using it until they release drivers for it. So much for optical precision...

    10.1 performance report

For what it's worth, I also have a 500MHz Pismo (stock drive, 256MB) and I can tell you without a doubt that 10.1 is faster. I'm very impressed with the speed. Yes, IE does seem to bounce as much as before, but it appears to bounce faster and definitely renders pages much faster.

    serial connections

As a Unix engineer and closet Mac user, I was going to give serious consideration to using Mac OS X as my desktop OS (and ignore the cracks from my coworkers). The beta seems fine enough to replace NT, but then I realised something pretty important. There are no serial ports on Powerbooks! How...

    Turning off services NetInfo?

So, NetInfo, huh? Hm. I'm a Solaris Admin (very little BSD) and I'm a little hazy on how to turn services off in OS X. No inet.conf (okay, there is, but it's not used) and I can't find the start scripts for services like nfs, sendmail (are they turned off by listing them in /etc/hostconfig?). I...

    Renaming hard drive

I grabbed a G4 from MIS and installed OSX PB on it. My assumption is that the original hard drive was named Untitled because that is what I'm stuck with. Is there any way to rename the drive without booting into MacOS 9? The Inspector does not let me change the name.
