Do not tamper with iPhoto Library in Finder. It is iPhotos way of organizing. If you remove or change anything there, you will not be able to use iPhoto, and your photos will/may be lost! Do any organizing of your photos from within iPhoto! Trust me, been there, done that -- not pretty...

As far as the scanner, sorry, you will need to buy a Mac compatible one. I had a Visioneer, and when I switched, they told me that they do not, nor will they ever support Macs. I purchased a Canon LiDE model and am quite happy with it. Good luck, and welcome to Mac!

I had a similar problem with my e815, not using cable, though -- I use the bluetooth to sync. To cure my problem, I unpaired the bluetooth, deleted the phone from iSync and reinstalled both and it worked just fine. Just needed a jumpstart, I guess. Perhaps that would work for you?
