    What's next?

Having an Office replacement would be great. Hopefully Apple will release iWorks (or iOffice) soon.

So what's the scoop for NY in 2 weeks?

Indeed, there won't be a keynote from Steve, plus the focus will be shifted toward creative professionals (as opposed to the entire spectrum of users). I doubt there will be any major announcements.

Now that WWDC is over, let the new rumours begin!

Some consumers were confused between the 867 MHz G4 PowerBook (12") and the 900 MHz G3 iBook (12"). Apple undoubtedly wants to make the processor difference clear and would not like to see consumers "buying down." In turn, having both iBooks and PowerBooks with G4 processors could hurt some sales.

    iBooks, G3 etc.

Considering that the desktop G5 needs 9 fans and 4 thermal zones, Apple would need to do some serious work for the G5 to fit into a thin and light enclosure.

    Apple just doesn't get it.

It would be better if the two lower models are a bit less expensive. The G4 desktops should naturally be cut in prices accordingly. However, the top end G5 is well worth its price. As long as Apple puts on a compelling marketing campaign, there should be a lot of willing customers.

What do U all Think - Final Verdict ?

I find the Expose feature in Panther quite compelling. Another plus for increased productivity. As for the hardware, the specs are impressive. I suppose the lower two models could be a bit less expensive. As a sidenote, ZDNet posted a biased article about the event on their front page...

Apple's iPod page has a Quicktime image of the buttons lighting up.

    New iBook?

Think Secret has reported that new iBooks are on their way! Unfortunately, the specs don't sound too exciting. http://www.thinksecret.com/news/aprilibooks.html

rumor: New iMac @ MWSF (translation from hardmac.com)

If Apple plans to release higher-end iMacs with larger screens, it better be prepared to lower the prices on existing models. After all, the iMac is supposed to be more value-oriented in comparison to Power Macs.

Why Apple can't disable OS 9 booting completely

Apple definitely needs more leverage to persuade education institutions and the print industry to upgrade to OS X. When M$ announced the whole software activation scheme for XP, a lot of people complained. However, M$ still got its way. Moreover, Office 11 will only work on the newest Windows...

Certain Macs will boot OS 9 until June 2003

It becomes inefficient for Apple to continue stradling between two operating systems. Apple obviously wishes to increase revenues and gain some market share against Windows. Only by (strongly) encourging people to migrate to a single operating system will these objectives be met. Resources...

Whats with the iPod 1.2.1 update?

Same problem here. After a full charge, my iPod's battery indicator will show a depleted level. After several minutes, the battery indicator will show a full charge. The battery indicator worked fine with my iPod's original firmware (v1.2). After installing v1.2.1 (which Apple claims to...

    iBook G4?

If Apple can put the G4 in the iBook and still break the $1000 barrier, then that's all for the better. However, one knows that's just wishful thinking. So if one wants a portable with the G4, just go buy a PowerBook. The iBook is intended for the more value-minded consumer/student anyhow...

    iPod - Generation

Do one thing and do it well. An example of a product that tries ambitiously to integrated multiple devices is the Panasonic SD-AV10. While it may be small and sleek, it really can't do any one thing well (MP3 player, digital camera, camcorder). The SD card doesn't fit much data for...

Most likely new product at mwsf?

I think the software arena will most likely receive the most attention, including updates to existing iApps and possibly the introduction of a few others. Specifically, iSync should have matured out of beta form.

    iBook G4?

It may be too soon for Apple to ditch the G3 on the iBook. It is less expensive than the G4, runs cooler and quieter, and still has some potential in terms of increased horsepower.

    New iMacs at MWSF?

It seems quite possible, since iMacs were last upgraded at MWNY. It will be six months since the last upgrade.

    New PowerMacs????

Considering the Power Macs were announced in August 2002, it might be slightly soon for them to be upgraded again. Still, if the eMacs and iMacs are to be upgraded MWSF, then the Power Macs should not be too far behind. I think a good rule of thumb for hardware upgrades is 5-7 months.
