what do you guys think of buying refurbished?

I bought a refurbished DP 450 from Small Dog about 2 years ago. I sold it to my son to get my current machine. It is working beautifully with no problems whatsoever. A very good experience, I must say.

    How to mount "disc image"

Then I would suggest that you use the Apple Disk Copy (in Applications - Utilities) to create your disk copy. Toast disc copies are only useable in Toast AFAIK.

    My Firewire HD keeps dismounting

I have a similar problem but with a FW DVD+RW/+R drive which loses it's connection with my computer every now and then. To get it recognized by the system I have to switch both the computer and the drive off, then do a restart. It seems as if there is something in the system probing the drive as...

    DVD-RAM vs. DVD+RW

I currently have a DVD+RW Ikebana drive with a Ricoh MP5125A inside which I use mainly to read DVD's I make on a Philips DVD Recorder. I copy my work to the HD and then burn it to the cheaper DVD-R discs with my Superdrive with Toast. I would advise that you go with a DVD-R drive instead of the...

    Need to burn DVD's

For your Mac, get Toast Titanium (now at V 5.2) which will work with most external DVD burners. OWC (www.macsales.com) has the Pioneer 104 in a Firewire case. I have an Ikebana branded Ricoh MP5125A FW external DVD+RW/+R drive which works fine with Toast along with my internal Superdrive.

    disk copy

I don't use iTunes to burn CD's (I use Toast) but I believe that you have to transfer the CD to iTunes and then burn from iTunes.

    Backing up Jaguar

To get around this, I made a clone of my 10.1.5 disk to an external disk, then booted from the external in 10.1.5 and used CCC to make a clone of 10.2 to a different external disk. Worked fine.

OSX 10.2 and Carbon Copy Cloner

I am using V 1.3.1 which worked fine under 10.1.5.

OSX 10.2 and Carbon Copy Cloner

It seems as if CCC is broken under 10.2. I upgraded my computer yesterday and this morning tried to clone my startup disk. CCC crashed 3 times without being able to do the clone. Anyone else had this experience?

    Firewire hard drive. Which one?

http://www.piranhatech.com/index.asp Go to this site. I recently bought a 120gb drive from them at a very good price. They usually advertise specials on Dealmac.com ( that is where I saw the special price on the drive).

Using disk copy to backup dvd

You cannot backup/copy a commercial DVD Movie. Apple would be sued by the studios if the software that came with the computer would allow this.;)

Copying OSX contents to new drive-help?

Carbon Copy Cloner works quite well. I use it weekly to ack up my HD to an external FW drive, boot from the FW drive to run TTPro, Drive 10 and Disk Warrior from it to repair/maintain my internal drive. I recommend it wholeheartedly.:D

Which 120GB Firewire Drive Should I Get?

I heartily endorse what themacko says. Stick with the OWC 7200rpm drive. You pay extra for quality.:p
