article: is your Mac fast enough?

This won't be the case for very long. Apple will push it and push it hard (as they did with the move from floppy distributions to CDs).

    Pixlet - Extremely processor intensive

This is for pros...with a raft of Dual 2GHz PowerMac G5s, Gigbit Ethernet, tossing massive video data around their networks!

Pre-determine windows location on the screen

For Cocoa (or Carbon nib-based) applications it can possibly be done by modifying the nib files (inside the package contents). You must have the Apple developer tools (InterfaceBuilder) to do this. Basically you can open the nib file containing the window in question. Place the window where you...

    What if "Project" is next?

There has been rampant speculation about iWorks (or whatever) and replacements for Word and Office. Apple began by introducing Keynote, with the implication that presentation software could be done better. Also Safari and a direct shot at IE. Could Apple's next target be less frontal...

How to make iChat use USB cameras...

This is pretty typical Apple (some thing it is good, other bad). They are pushing (or pulling) the market (often "kicking and screaming") into the future. They did this with the 3.5" floppy (1984) and again in (what?) 1992. Everyone whined. Now no one knows why. They did this with OS X...

    I'm wondering...product "grid"...

Fair point, however, put yourself in Apple's shoes in terms of trying to position things.

    I'm wondering...product "grid"...

I'm kind of wondering if this is the direction Apple is going (regardless of naming). If it were me I'd do the "e", "i", "Power" and "X" thing across the board. But there are reasons why Apple probably cannot (current trademarks for example). But what if this is the way things are looking:

    Apple just doesn't get it.

Look for them to begin scaling up the iMac and eMac now. Dual G4 across the board on iMac and eMac? At the same (current) prices? Who knows. This is just "Act 1".

    Is this THE ONE ?

I have. But look BACK. Look at the iBook NOW versus THEN. Look at the PowerBook. The PowerMac and the current displays are not a good gauge, sa their designs pre-date the current (overall trend) to less "swoopy" lines. 5 years ago color was the rage. Now white is it (not just in Apple's...

    Is this THE ONE ?

Actually...round is "out"...soooo 90's. Look at the newer cars these days. Squared off corners. The Current PM looks pretty dated in its basic case design.

    Internet Taxing

Couple of points that come to mind: 1. Regarding ApeintheShell's post: I hate when the government uses the taxe code as a social engineering experiment. Fundamentally stupid use of the tax code in my opinion. We're not rats in a maze. But then again, maybe we are. 2. The "bricks 'n'...

    I need to read eBooks!

Uh...doesn't Adobe Reader (at least 6.0) do this? Freely available. I believe that eBooks are a PDF technology so I would be amazed that Adobe Reader (formerly Adobe Acrobat Reader) would not suit your needs.

    pal?

I am always amused at teh confidence of posters who say something is a fake...detailing the reasons even...then something turns out to be real.

    Uh...OS X 10.2.6 runs just fine on my iBook G3 600MHz, 640 MB RAM.

    Services menu

Actually, I think you are right. And I do think they are (almost) always applicable from a context menu perspective. The interesting thing here is that on NEXTSTEP, Services were one of the coolest things. This is something I think that is "way cooler" than anything you can do on Windows. In...

    Services menu

You actually only have to SELECT the item (text, file, etc.) You don't need to copy it for Services on that item to work. Even cooler. :-)

    pixar to buy universal

True. But the point is still valid. I don't know if Steve owns ANY stock in Apple. He's had some options (unexcercised) and (perhaps) a SINGLE share of Apple (symbolic). Secondly, if he owns more than 50% of Pixar...he owns it. No one else is able to override any of his decisions (legally)...

    pixar to buy universal

This is a very good point and one worth considering. In today's world, with ownership so often diluted, you could own a mere 5-10% of a company and effectively "own" it all. This comes from the fact that the rest of the ownership is so diluted as to be ineffective.

    pixar to buy universal

Okay...several things to consider: 1. There are (at least) three different entities here: - Steve Jobs (the person) - Apple Computer, Inc. (which Steve Jobs is ONLY the CEO, but not the owner of) - Pixar (which Steve Jobs is both CEO AND owner) These can (and should) be...

    Services menu

The applications don't have to be open for the services to be present. The services are available whether the application that provides it is running or not.
