    Entourage problem

For retreiving mail your statement is not correct. One difference might be: Sometimes the server names are shortcutted to e.g. mail. This is short for e.g. mail.gmail.com. The gmail.com comes from te tcp/ip setting search-domains. There always use the full name for all servers in stead of...

Apple Mail, how do I add subfolders to "inbox"??

Why not create a dummy account which does nothing else as be there (do not include in the 'include for automatic mail check' list). Good luck, Kees

    Apple Remote Desktop not allowing...

Is the IP-number of the server still te same ? If not, the server will have internal issues with the changed ip-number. There is a command (changeip) for that. Otherwise check if you can access the server will connection to it from the internal LAN. Sometimes that might give you some clues...

    .Mac Sync Problem

You can use it for any amount of computers (memory limititations not taken into account). You can specify what you want to synchronise, but all information will be available to everyone. As far as i know you can not create multiple sets of separate information. You start saving the bucks...

File boxes don't remember last location

If you use an MAC OS server, it can remember that position (checked with safari and appleworks). So maybe it does not remember the location for non-APPLE servers. In the old days you could specify the behavior for what you requested, but i could not find the option in the control panes, so no...

Apple Mail, how do I add subfolders to "inbox"??

As far as i understand, the standard boxes like inbox, contain the INCOMING mail for an account. If you create another MAP, than it creates it in the ACCOUNT you created in a special MAP. So if you want a personal map under the account 'myself', mail will create a map 'myself' and when you open...

    Back to Back Router

You could use a router, but might have problems merging the networks (you create a subnetwork behind the router). Better use an access point, which just creates a wireless entry on that spot without any other functionality. All wireless traffic through the access point is part of the complete...

"The alias ... could not be opened.

You have an alias which is no longer linked to an existing location. Use fix to reconnect it to the server you want to. First use 'go to' in the finder to make a connection to the server you want the alias to be linked to. Good luck, Kees

Why does authenticating take over 2 mins?

Create another account and check if that works up to speed. if so, the account is the problem (like trying to authenticate to the outside world). If the problem persists, something might be wrong with the hardware (similar problem was cause by a bad harddrive, whatever i did to minutes to...

    Parallels / VPC XP Install

If it is a general XP version, it should work. If it is adaptor for VIRTUAL PC, it might not work. Ofcourse make sure to fullfill the minimum requirements for parallels (e.g. sp2). Good luck, Kees

Strange Airport Express setting and iTunes issue

Check the documentation of the speakers, or consult your dealer or the manufacturer for it. Normally you cn configure the speakers through software on the computer (most likely), or sometimes even directly in the speakers itself. Good luck, Kees

    Server going to home address.

ip-number to name = reverse dns resolve. How do you specify this imac from the other computer. That computer also uses 127.0.0.1 for itself, so you will need to use the outside world ip-number, or, if you have a dns server, its outside world name. Good luck, Kees

    Removing A Partition?

That was not what i said. Only that erase has a different function (remove everything from an existing partition, while keeping the partition settings intact). If you select the drive, you get the option 'partition'. This is normally used to change the partition settings. If you do not see...

    Port Mapping w/Airport Utility

A product - of which a part is not working properly - can not be an excellent product in my opinion. My experience is from a long time ago (as i mentioned), but making it work like i wanted was my problem and still seems to be the problem (for some applications at least). Good luck, Kees

    Can't connect to local servers

I find the name for the mailserver very odd / confusing. Maybe that is the problem. Otherwise translate the name to an ip-number and fill in the ip-number. That should work anyway. If it works, the dns resolve seems to fail. Does the ip-number usage also not work, than other issues might be...

    G5 tower keeps freezing

Difficult to say from a distance, but the video-cards looks like a winning bet to cause the problems. Check the fan on the card or try to cool it externally and look if it differs. Beter cooling should at least delay the freezing. Good luck, Kees

    Removing A Partition?

Erase is something different from delete. Try removing (and recreate) the partition of reformatting the partition with a different File Format (e.g. hfs+). That might work. Good luck, Kees

    64 Bit Processor?

Also do not use 64bit unless you really need it (if it was posiible to use it). There are quite a lot of problems with 64bit drivers for vista (or xp) 64bit. Good luck, Kees

    Gb ethernet & iMac G5

You could also try to find a gigabit USB connector. Although that would not give you the maximum performance possible on the gigabit network (like FireWire), it will increase performance by a factor of almost 5. If you lay down cable for gigabit, use cat6 not cat5e (only 125mbit officially)...

Strange Airport Express setting and iTunes issue

If your speakers rely on the dhcp server to provide an ip-number, the speakers will no longer get the ip-number. Program them to have a fixed ip-number and it should work again. IP-numbers are not remember (as they are not valid) after the lease time expires. Good luck, Kees
