    PB 12" in Europe

Hey there, I've just ordered a PB 12" in Germany. On the site it said that the availability was 2-4 days, but then in the order confirmation it said to expect 2-4 days for processing the order and then 2-5 days for delivery!! :( ... does anyone have experience with how long it actually takes...

    iTunes vs. MediaPlayer

I've just seen MediaPlayer again for the first time in absolute *yonks* (i.e. donkey's years), and it suddenly seems to have *all* the features of iTunes (vis a vis play lists, for example) ---> now, I was wondering which app got them first. I have my suspicions, but they're totally unfounded...

    Knock-knock

You can check exactly which programs are running with the /Applications/Utilities/Process Viewer.app Why don't you check that. You could even post a screen grab of it here so that other people can see exactly what's on. (Make sure you view all processes, not just your own.) C PS: I'm...

Files fail to transfer from one Mac to another...how to fix?

I use scp for all my transferring needs. Just thought I'd throw that in there :) C

How do I keep hidden DOS files hidden?

Oh - and the .trashes and .ds_store have been the bane of mac users for a while with no end in sight :( Sorry. C

How do I keep hidden DOS files hidden?

Have you tried calling your DOS files .<name> (prefixing the name with a dot) ?? That should make them hidden on a UNIX like system (such as OS X). And with the ATTRIB +H it will be hidden on DOS/Win systems. Haven't tried this myself - its just speculation. C

    Java Games

Java is platform independant, but some of the libraries access native code via the JNI interface. I'm not 100% sure, but I think Java3D falls into the latter category. If this is the case, then it won't run on OS X until the relevant native libs have been made.

    NSImageView and scaling

Hi there, I've got a problem when using an NSImageView with scaling set to 'Proportional' ... in that it doesn't seem to do it correctly. In the help files it states that the NSImageView should be scaling an image down if its too big (which it does) and scale an image up if its too small...

    iTunes 4.0.1

Toast - just recall the problems that Internet Radio was having only a few months ago because the authorities wanted to start charging fees for them broadcasting :) Do you want to have to pay that kind of money for sharing your iTunes music library? Hell - if you've got the money - go for it...

    VPN authentication

Depends on what type of VPN you're using. Coz the one built into the Internet Connect App is only for that weird windoze VPN (PPTP). If you want anything with a semblance of security you should be using the KAME stack which is built into the kernel with OS X but doesn't have any GUI interface to...

Java & Mac OSX = Nightmare

I know that OS X *still* can't handle the navigation Applet used by WebLogic 6.x. This is damn annoying, coz its one of the very few things I can't do from my notebook when wandering around the office and connecting to any kind of network you care to mention :) C

I did it! Bill would be proud!

I use XP at work professionally and OS X at home and also professionally when my boss isn't looking. That's because OS X suits me better. I can get all tasks done much faster. If you're wondering what I do, its programming back-end systems. Mainly using Java as the programming language and...

Attn: 17" Pbook Owners, 17" vs. 12" Heat Issue

PS - sorry! I do realise that was a bit off-topic. I was reading here coz I'm interested in getting a 17", but I'd also heard about the heat issue. Plus I want to wait and see whether Apple is going to release a 970 based PB in the 'near' future. Its my understanding that processor consumes less...

Attn: 17" Pbook Owners, 17" vs. 12" Heat Issue

Just to say something nice about wireless networking: I've had no problems at all in setting up a WiFi network at home with an Apple AirPort and connecting various OS X boxes, Linux boxes (a Zaurus amongst others), Windoze PCs (a mate's laptop) and even PocketPCs (the Toshiba one, I believe)...
