My problem w/ Mac OS X

if you need a wysiwyg editor, they'll have to operate in the Classic (Mac OS 9) environment until developers carbonize their programs. I know that Macromedia is working on bringing Dreamweaver over... if you can use text editors for making pages, then you can use Pepper which is available on...

    Restricting user access to apps

i don't believe that it's possible to allow access to applications, only files (maybe apps that are stored in Public)... probably for security reasons.

How do you guys move the dock around?

near the beginning of the document are blocks of XML code that say something like <key>command</key> <integer>1013</integer> what you have to change is the word 'command' to 'menu' do this for the 1013 and 1014 blocks. save your file, exit the Terminal and you...

How do you guys move the dock around?

you need to tell the app that you are wanting to open the file. the -e tells it to open the file in the text editor rather than simply run it.

    Restricting user access to apps

Only things found in the Public folder are accessible across a network....so, you could try to put aliases to your apps there... it may be that the ability to share applications has been removed. or, at least, restricted to the Mac OS X Server application.

How do you guys move the dock around?

you have to use the Terminal application located in: /Applications/Utilities This is a command-line interface that allows you to interact with the system on a text-command basis. It's similar to the DOS prompt, but it's all unix, baby.

    Classic awareness

if you wish to restart or quit os 9, you go to the System Preferences (either through the Dock or through the Apple Menu), select Mac OS 9 and there are buttons there to accomplish that. If you're in a panic, you can Force Quit it, but 9 will consider itself improperly shut down. using the...

    Classic and Mac OS X

i'm presuming that you've actually installed Mac OS 9.1 -- it doesn't install automatically -- it doesn't load until you attempt to launch a Mac OS 9 application. did you receive an error with mac os 9 or just concerned about it not launching automatically?

    Apple Menu

again, the point of the Apple Menu is for System-specific items, not a hodge-podge collection of random things -- that is what the Dock is for. I stopped using the Apple Menu for random crap a long time ago and chose to use Drag Strip (from aladdin systems) instead. far more useful...

    Classic awareness

It was a little odd for me at first, but isn't the point of the thing that it be as seamless as possible? when you open a classic app it will just work; either it'll load classic first or not. for me, it's just one less thing to have in the dock so i'm happy :)

    Deep Fried Mac.. with cheese

we had a spare G4 that we use for swapping out problematic machines so I'm using that at work. the machine was sent in to a repair center and they've declared that the motherboard has passed on. they're installing a new motherboard and I should get it back next week.

    I gots the final. :)

I'm not on a mac at the moment, but isn't there a Location feature under the Apple Menu?
  18. H

So I'm running OS X Final...

this is an 'early adopters' release and folks were sufficiently warned about its current shortcommings. Apple said months ago that it would be missing features and wouldn't be as optimized as one would like. Mac OS 9 flew, but had 15 years of optimization (and clutter) under it. Of course, I...

    OmniWeb won't stay on dock

firstly, open the application from the Application/OmniWeb directory. It will then appear in the Dock. then, right-click (or control-click) the icon to get the pop-up menu. choose Add to Dock (or whatever it's called). it should stay in the dock from then on. btw: you did remove it from...
