Hi Cheryl Thanks for the advice, but as I pointed out in my question, disk utility doesn't see the Lacie hard drive so there is nothing to repair. It does show up on the system profiler but obviously nothing that I can touch

Whilst backing up from a LaCie 1394 250g external hard disk to a maxtor external hard disc. An error code came up due to a file file name and said it was stopping copying. This I ok'd. The maxtor had a few of the files copied. The Lacie showed 0 files and 18.65gig space remaining. I thought...
