    UPDATE TO 10.1 prob

At one point, Apple had said that letting the iBook (dual USB) go to sleep while displaying screen saver other than the Basic one could result in a Freeze. I would have thought this problem would have been solved with 10.1 though...

The fact that you don't use them doesn't mean no one uses them...;)

No file sync beween 2 folders No USB Printer server No labels in the Finder No importing of comments from Mac OS 9 to Mac OS X So we can all be reassured : there will be a Mac OS 10.2 !!! :p Gentlemen : to your feedback page !.. Ready ? Fire !!! :D

    Missing Features in 10.1...

You seem to forget that elements like the one I emphasized in my very first message (disk turn off time and screen dimming/shut off time) are the very thing that cause Mac OS X not to be Energy Star compliant. Why else should Mac OS X be such an energy-drainer ? Do you think Apple added a line...

It didn't work here either, until I first opened the preference panel that is. Since then, the shortcut works (even after a restart).

What happened to the original idea anyway ??? Did Apple say that it isn't a good idea ???

While I whole heartedly agree with most of your pro and con list, I fail to see the problem with the fact that the date is a greyed out menu... Isn't it how a non selectable menu item should look like ???

This also means that if you plan on walking away from the lighted room for more that 7 minutes, you'd be better off turning those fluorescent lights off ! Same thing for HD, I guess ! :D Man : I totally agree with myself ! Now isn't that great ??? :p

Yep, I agree that would be a wonderful idea : I think I'll send that as a feedback to Apple ! :)

    Missing Features in 10.1...

Let us say that we agree to disagree. Apparently, contrary to your argument, it does make a difference, because the iBook's battery lasts a lot less longer in Mac OS X than it does in Mac OS 9. (As I said in a previous post) And mind you, it is the same iBook with the same hardware...

You clearly don't have a portable, do you ? How about saving all that precious energy ? When you are working from a battery, turning off the disk sooner, dimming the screen sooner means being to be able to use the computer much longer without having to plug it in... With Mac OS 9, my iBook has...

    UPDATE TO 10.1 prob

By the way, I didn't even have to redownload it to get a working CD... I simply had to burn the CD without mounting on the desktop, using the same disk image. My feeling is that Toast Titanium's optimize-on-the-fly feature ruins the boot-ability of the resulting CD... Good luck !

    UPDATE TO 10.1 prob

That is exactly the solution ! It hapened to me... and this is what I had to do ! ;) By the way, this resulted in a perfectly bootable Mac OS X CD, without even having to hold the C key.

    Mac OS X 10.1 (5G64) GM- HOOAHHH!

My guess would be that you burned your CD using Toast... and you mounted the image on the desktop to do so. Because of this, Toast used the optimize-on -the-fly feature, witch rendered your CD unbootable in OS X. Solution ? Reburn a new CD ! (Yes, I know : bummer ! It hapened to me too !) But...

... and the minimum delay before a sub-system can be turned off is five minutes ! Five !!! (In Mac OS 9, the factory default for the hard drive is to turn off after one minute.) Talk about a great way to waste your precious battery power ! :(

For now, I'm afraid the answer is later. But if and when I have the disk image, I'll leave you a note...

    Well, the letters are rather a D and a L (and that's short for download) ! ;)
