Why is this forum so slow?

There is a problem with the vBulletin software. I sometimes have the problem with other sites that use the software. See this thread, it discusses the problem: thread See also this thread from vbulletin.com

    minimizing full-screen apps

I usually use Apple-Tab to swap between apps, especially if it is running in full screen. You can always use Apple-H to hide any app as well, which is similar to minimising I suppose. R.

    Big iMovie Problems

I wonder if this is a problem with iLink and Firewire not quite being exactly the same thing. hmmm.

My x.1.4 nightmare rather loong sorry

It does sound like the OS has forgotten where your home folder is, and has just created a new one for you elsewhere. Did you move your user directory away from the default? Hunt around and see if you can find the files somewhere. Barring that, the only other thing that I can think of is a...

How do I share a folder?

Download SharePoints from VersioTracker - that will sort you out. I use a fileserver at home, and until this weekend it ran OS9. However I bumped up the memory and installed Jag and then found it really difficult to share folders. I am sure that there is a way, but it wasn't obvious. Anyway...

IE 6 / Windows XP incompatible?

I wonder if it has anything to do with the PHP graphic libs not producing great quality files. IE on a PC could be more sensitive than smarter Macs (clutching at straws a little here). Not only have we got a new theme, but didn't the site move host recently? I hate using PCs.

IE 6 / Windows XP incompatible?

Certain graphics seem to having a problem. When I right mouse click on them using IE5 on a PC then I get the following properties (see attachment). The graphics that are having problems have a size of -1 bytes. R.

IE 6 / Windows XP incompatible?

I get exactly the same, using IE 5ish on a PC (NT4.0 SP6) (the about box has broken as well). I thought that it was due to a proxy issue on site, but what you are describing matches my issues. Wierd. R.

    Stupid iCal

I actually find iCal quite useful. The underlying vCalendar format is opensource and so it shouldn't be too hard to write a small dockling that reads up the files and provides alert functionality. I synch with my web site automatically (using same PHP software as www.icalx.com) using simple FTP...

    Mail.app lost all mails

Perhaps your swap file (or some other temporary file) is expanding and contracting, which is why you are getting peculiar disk space messages, and at odd times you are running out of disk space and your settings aren't being saved. Wierd. R.

CD burning in OSX is PATHETIC

Yeah - as Javintosh says. Macs are very user friendly - sometimes too user friendly for new Windows converts (I was one myself), who often expect it to be harder. Create a playlist in iTunes Drag the songs in that you want Hit the big radioactive button. R.

I can't take it anymore ... What is this for?

I use services to create stickies of things that I want to remember or act upon. Very handy.

    Emergency... Network help please ...

I would re-iterate what davidbrit2 says. The logs indicate that your system was being probed, intially for microsoft web server failings (you don't have that) and then the code red trying to get onto your system, and failing, because you have a Mac. Nothing has got onto your system according...

    musings of a potential convert

I would probably get a powerbook because you want to play 3D games. I do everything else that you do, except play games, and I use an old clamshell iBook, which is sufficient. That may answer one of your questions about how long your hardware will last: Both my Macs are from the previous...

    web site evaluation

No Probs: Round the edge of the site you have permanent links e.g. the Trashweb, Trasher and Other boxes. The middle of the site contains what I would could content: the data that brings the user to the site again and again. The functions of these two areas on the page are very different and...

    web site evaluation

I like the site - nice and clean. Maybe more contrast between teh static links and the content on the page, but that is a very small point. However the content - priceless. People - check out the peter pan homepage  (I found it under the top 20) <nasal California Accent>...

    Apple buying SUN

In my particular industry Sun is under pressure because of Linux replacing it. What would apple want with another UNIX? It would be the hardware that they are after, but they have just brought out the X-Server, which is selling very well. I am not sure that it would be a great idea - too...

    Is this good?

Hej Thug Angel, velkommen. (jeg snakker ikke norske - only to order øl :D ) Your choice of iBok will be fine. I still use an old clamshell iBook and have no problems with 384MB RAM. I am getting a little tight with only a 20GB HDD but 40GB should be fine. It won't be the quickest computer...

    .mac

Actually, I work in the financial markets and have qualifications in that area. It seems to me that certain people really didn't like it that Apple dropped iTools. This is because they relied upon it, and it was painful to see your email address disapear unless you pay for .Mac. This brings...
