    connect iMac to iBook

You don't need OSX Server. If you want to connect the two directly using the ethernet port you may need a special kind of ethernet cable, called something like a 'twisted pair' or 'crossover' cable. This will allow you to connect two computers directly. Apple has a good article on this...

    .mac

No-one is saying that you can't get .Mac functionality elsewhere for free. However no free service will guarantee service quality and/or uptime. If you don't rely on that functionality then why should you pay when you get it free? If you do rely on it, then pay and enjoy the peace of mind. I...

Something to Impress the Dark Side

For me it is the simple things that make a difference. When I am on the iBook then people really notice the dock (lots of maginification). Also the genie effect is neat. Other things that are quite annoying on a PC: Trying to share pictures - usually they are pasted into a word document...

You should be able to play minesweeper on it though - not all is lost! It may not be pokey enough for hearts though. :p R.

The wonderful world of IP printing ;-(

I had a similar problem when I setup an IP printer and didn't quite get the right drivers. I can't remember the exact model of printer I was using (about 4 years ago now) but say I was using the 1234-L I only installed the drivers for 1234-M (you get the idea). Anyway, mostly it was fine, but...

I would use terminal to do this personally. The 'mv' command is great for this: Type 'man mv' or check out this link for information. R.

    iSync Beta released!!!

It worked fine with my 20GB iPod, and only took a couple of seconds. I won't be a power user for iSync but it does everything that I need already. Not bad for a beta. R.

    Apple: Webbriddle on Apple.com

I wouldn't call the error glaring, but it is there. The cash flow statement doesn't balance to the sum of $1,045,000. The Balance sheet doesn't feed into the cash flow statement either: In Week1 the Cash in the balance sheet is out by $10,450.00 compared to the balance at the end of the cash...

    Smallest digital camera for Mac?

When I was purchasing my camera the shop was convinced that almost no camera worked with OSX because there were no drivers out there. The fact of the matter is that many of them don't need drivers (mine didn't). Go with DeltaMac's plan - just plug one in and see if it works. R.

    Apple: Webbriddle on Apple.com

beemer: BMW There is a car called a 2002 BMW that was built in 1974. The translation from Yahoo was slightly incorrect: "I know that you have a special place in your heart for beemers. You must see my black 1974 2002 crosses. To check NewYorkTimes classified first on August 14, 2002."...

Uploading files to an ftp server...

Any ftp client will allow you to do this. OSX has the standard 'ftp' command built into it accessible via terminal. Type 'man ftp' for its usage. I personally use Fetch, a great piece of software and a lot easier to use. Click here for a fetch link. R.

    someones using my wireless network?

it is probably a ghost - the guy may have got onto your network in the past, but now all you are seeing is the DHCP lease that is still available to him. This used to be a problem with early OSX - search for some posts around the subject to find a resolution. R.

    Need help with jaguar problem..

I had an issue that sounds similar - it was to do with the line itself. It worked fine for voice, but the dial tone could not be detected by the computer. If I tried another phone line (I had two) it was OK. I turned off the 'wait for dial tone' option in the settings (can't remember where...

applications OS X could use that Windows has

Access is quite useful as an INI file, if you need one. That is the only use I can find for it. I don't really see Access as a database system - to make it usable you have to put lots of transaction management and application servers around it, which means that you are effectively building your...

9 Vs X performance compared.Does MacOs X take advantage of your system?

I agree totally. Surely the application will use a different set of libraries on each operating system, which means that you are effectively testing using two different applications. That is a large systematic error to start with. I don't care whether OSX is x% slower or faster than OS9, the...
