you cant make a vcd with an avi file, you need to convert it its very time consuming and in the end not worth it more often than not... try ffmpegx

have your formatted it as hfs+? I dont really understand apple filesystems, but when you copy to a fs without the resource fork and back you lose data that might be required for the programs

.txt will open within in browser. you might want to try .rtf, its just about as compatible plus you get formatting options
