    Passwords on OSX

OK guys, I admit it - I went way over the top. And I have to thank you all for your patience and understanding. Yes - I was frustrated, and have been using OSX for some time - but there was no excuse. Some of it was a little bit alcohol-induced, I have to admit.... Thanks, too, for your many...

    Passwords on OSX

Yeah, Scruffy - it's really likely that that someone would want to hack into MY computer - imho, the most likely candidates would be the White House, the Pentagon or Number Ten. Yes, I do curse and shout now - after over two years of hell! Believe me, I'm a Mac enthusiast and evangelist (or...

    Passwords on OSX

I could understand OS 9.x - I just can't get my head round OSX. Well, that's not quite true - when it works it's fine. But when it doesn't, I'm completely lost. No control panels, no preferences, no extension manager to fiddle with, no easily accessible system folder - and worst of all no...

    Passwords on OSX

I think the problem is actually the new so-called Keychain. Why do I need this little bit of unnecessary - that serves no useful purpose. We managed perfectly well without anything like this before OSX. Would anything drastic happen if I deleted it?

    Passwords on OSX

I've just looked at the Security section of System Preferences - I have to say it's part of Preferences I've never looked at before in two years, because I want no security (strange as that may seem to some people). I have nothing I wish to hide. I just would like to be able to use this...

    Passwords on OSX

Can someone please tell me why OSX (pile of poo that it is) keeps asking me for passwords every time that I log on? Not only that, but wretched mail.app asks me for the same password every time that I wish to download my mail. I am not running a network, I do NOT want ANYTHING password...

    Safari Quitting Unexpectedly Again

It tends to happen with Safari from time to time - hopefully future releases will become more stable.

    Startupitems in panther?

Well, I've learned something tonight. ::love:: I didn't know where Startup Items was either - and I've been using OSX almost since it came out! That's the problem with having no FM to R....

    "support@mac.com" email virus?

What is a bit worrying is that someone is trying to specifically target Mac users - which, I would say, is a new - and concerning - development. Let's hope they don't get lucky. But, in the meantime, no-one should be at all complacent about using a Mac. Never open anything which looks...

mail.app is wining the arstechnica poll

I too used Outlook Express before Mac OSX - but I was able to import all of my old mail (many 100s of Mbs) into Mail without any difficulty at all. And, like others have said, I find Mail does just about anything I need. I'd just like to have a greater degree of possible customisation....

    10.3 bares its teeth

'Think Different' was one of the greatest - and most appropriate, considering the product - advertising campaigns of recent times. Why on earth it was dropped is a mystery to me. I'm sure it could be resurrected and lose nothing of it's power - playing, as it does, on the mystique and unique...

BBC program on Gates vs. Jobs

Dammit - I missed the programme! I had a tape all ready to video it too, then I got the time wrong.... Still, it'll probably be repeated on BBC Three or Four in the not too far distant future.

    Keychain - how to customize

I am finding it increasingly annoying that every time I use OSX I am prompted for my keychain password. Now, I wouldn't mind, but it isn't as if I'm running a network here, or have any major security issues. It was something that happened occasionally with OSX 10.1 and Jaguar, but now with...

My Panther first Impressions and discoveries - Post here

I second most of what Mindbend says above. Panther is a quantum leap forward from Jaguar - and, for me, is so much faster it's almost like the jump into hyperspace. Only one grumble: Safari keeps crashing - and I know the OS allows user reports to be sent direct to Apple, but this happens so...

[FAQ] Font Book vs. Other font management sftwre

I've missed something, somewhere - saw it in the advertising and on the Apple OSX Panther site. But how do you actually access FontBook? I've looked , but I can't find it! Dare I say it? - I'm not stupid - there's something wrong with the interface and general preferences if it isn't obvious...

How to make this site even better - suggestions please :)

I think I'm probably stating the obvious in saying that most people, including me, appreciate the new look and feel to the forum. A lot of work has obviously gone into it. One slight quibble (please forgive me if this has been mentioned already and answered - I don't have time to trwal...

    Contest Announcement

I think you're up against the fact that, although you have a huge membership (compared with most other forums), and many of those members are active in posting - general awareness amongst the Mac OSX community is not great. I had to go and search for a Mac OSX forum - as I didn't know...

Codename for the successor of 'Panther'?

Cougar is, of course, very American and doesn't mean all that much to us Europeans (although most of us have probably heard of it!).... Saber-tooth sounds great, but you run into the problem that it's spelt differently over here (Sabre-tooth), although that doesn't normally stop US product...
