My Copy of Keynote has Shipped!

my microsoft free lifestyle just got a lot better at making presentations. I had been using html. Decent, but not good at transitions. :-) Please do let us know what you think. I was kinda saddenned that there wasn't a free version or a try before you buy version. I believe everything is...

    No AAC

I did hear that aac can support mp3 style tags, but I have no hard evidence to back that up. I thought iTunes would be doing that today as well. Additionally I thought today we'd get the iTunes rendezvous sharing that we were promised at MWNY. Damn this long term memory, it only allows me to...

    safari and "localhost"

localhost brought up my web server's home page with no pictures. Just the html. 127.0.0.1 brought up the whole thing just fine. Including translucent png's. yay.

    Safari lacks. Doesn't have tabs.

I hate tabs safari still has serious suck issues. Performance wise at the minimum. I think my safari performance may be so seriously farked that I shouldn't judge anything els ebaout it because images are failing to load because they time out. Seriously, am I alone? totally whacked out...

    iSync to .Mac is broke

yell at apple. For $100 per year, the service is supposed to work. This kind of support should be standard fare.

    Let's all click the Bug-Button

and spellcheck in the text boxes is available, but off by default. Score one more for Omniweb. Not by much, but Omni still wins.

    Let's all click the Bug-Button

Omniweb has a better UI than safari from what I've seen thus far. I'm not impressed. I wanted vioce and video iChat on a Quicktime Framework, not another browser. I already have a browser that works for me, but I don't have a low cost low bandwidth usable video-conferencing solution. Maybe...

Safari Features - Password storing, status bar, all included

I assume it's just me, but safari blows. It's the slowest browser I have, aka the 6th fastest. I don't know what's going on, but it really blows. It doesn't load half the graphics. I'm on a dual processor machine. Anyone else experiencing "Serious Safari Suck?" I would comment on the UI...

    10.2.3 is out

I came here after I saw the update to see if anyone had experienced problems. No bad news, so I installed. Flawless so far. An now I'll share. Threads, like TV channels, need not all be explored. For the person experiencing the partial download, my advice is to try later, like 48 hours...

    Virtual PC 6

Yeah, the Wal_mart $200 special. Woohoooo! Anyway, yeah, VPC on a TiBook 667 runs XP at what seems to be 1/3 the speed of a PII 300. While that's pretty slow if you're gonna try any gaming, the fact that I can run the XP install from a CD at all makes me ecstatic. VPC rocks for trying out...

Challenge: Find a name for the brand new PowerPC

I think the name should have meaning only because of the product. Just like Apple only has meaning in terms of computing because of Apple Computer. Therefor I propose meaningless names, or diminutive but memorable names. These pompous names get so very tiring. PowerPC Pinto PPC Geep...

    microphone and os x...

agreed. Even assuming that you have a dynamic mic, the output probably isn't going to be of the level your computer is expecting. It'll be reeeeaaaaaally quiet. After negating the benefits of XLR by rewiring it to go into a headphone jack, you might as well just get a cheap radio shack mic...

    Does this Exist

very nice. I was about to suggest a UPS. ;-) That electrovaya thing looks really sweet. OK, I can't verify the iBook sleep swap. I do know it works on the TiBook. I must also note that a 12v DC to 115v AC power inverter (put an outlet in your car) power inverter can be had for about $30...

    Pismo Owner Looking for Help....

384 M of RAM. Definitely yes. Go for it. Powerbooks have slow hard drives so hitting VM is lethal in terms of speed. If you plan on having more than one app open, or have uptimes of more than 2 days, I guarantee you will experience an improvement with the additional RAM. 384 to 512 ... I'm...

    iPod for windows

yes, you can use a Windows iPod with a Mac on OS X.2. I didn't do anything to it, it just seemed to work. It showed up on my mac as a DOS volume. I haven't actually gotten the PC to see it yet though. I installed the Firewire card OK, I think. But you can't install the iPod software on...

    Yikes! Calculator bug?

We know far too little of the calculator to speculate further. We have said far more than we can verify already. The calculator has issues, but it's a throwaway demo app. Please, to improve the signal to noise ratio of this forum, let this thread die. If anyone does bring this thread back...

    Does this Exist

I have one that works on the oooooold powerbooks. It's a power dongle that takes a 9 volt battery. It's hilarious. Did you know you can swap the battery with the iBook asleep? That's good fun too. You have like 30 seconds of no battery sleep time. Does this alleviate the problem for you?

    iBook G4?

you could see if you can get the processor glued to the heatsink with some good thermal paste maybe. Other than that, I think maybe you have a flaky thermal sensor? And I'll take a G3 laptop over a G4 laptop anyday. And I have a TiBook. Battery life, heat tolerance, low cost. It rocks...

BIG security hole in Mac OS X!!

this is unix legacy, only the first 8 matter in unix style encryption. Mac OS X has a pluggable authentication module design, so that you might be authenticating against another password checker depending on the setup of the machine. Most likely the auth schema will improve in the future, but...

Why can't multiple CPUs solve the performance gap?

Yes, it's agonizingly difficult to find decent cross platform performance numbers that actually mean anything. Everyone has an agenda. Anyway, some stuff is better on multiple processors, some stuff isn't. Notable, AI logic and virtual machine logic like java doesn't benefit from parallel...
