On my G5 dual 2.5 with 10.4.9, Safari 3 opens and immediately quits.
Safari 2 works fine, but when I quit it, it crashes.

I'm using a ViewSonic VP2030 20" LCD and think it's terrific. Bright with accurate colors and exceptional sharpness at 1600x1200.

Run Disk Warrior on your startup drive and your scratch drive. Short of that, as mentioned above, run Disk Utility and repair permissions and disk. See what happens.
