Thanks for the reply, but the problem persists. mine's OS 10.3.9. I tried fcks mode or verbose mode, it says "panic: we are hanging here..." and I can't type anything. When I tried disk utility on the installation disk, the disk cannot be repaired because of an error. Are there any other tips?

I usually don't turn off my mac and I turned it off yesterday. Now when it turns on, at the gray screen, it goes straight to please restart thing. I have a Mac mini (not intel based) I've tried resetting PRAM orwtver, but it doesn work Any tips?
