    Well, adambyte, turns out it wasn't a dumb suggestion after all. How I missed zapping the pram I don't know. Must've been so long since I had to do it (with OS X) - standard practice with OS 9 wasn't it? And there's me saying what a super user I am - 'Oh the shame' Thanks.

    It is the internal microphone, which is under the left speaker grill. Now I've discovered dual display - with an external monitor doesn't work (as of 10.2.4). Off I go in search of a cure for that :-)

    Powerbook G4 400 OS 10.2.4/9.2.2 384Mb ram I'm getting severe audio feedback/squeal in OS X (as of a few OS updates ago). If I hold my hand over the microphone it's worse. It starts with the volume set at about 30-40%. It does not occur when running with OS 9. I've reinstalled OS X. I think...
