Determine OSX version from Time Machine backup

Recent installs do have a receipts folder but older one's don't. I know that one of my folders OS was Mountain Lion but the folder "receipts" doesn't appear in the list. would this have been organized differently in earlier versions?

Determine OSX version from Time Machine backup

Not sure what you mean by clean up. Time Machine does it's thing and then hibernates until it's time to do next backup. I do not interupt it. I drilled down through HD / 2016-02-27-211737 / Halifax2015 / System / Library / ... I have 73 folders but none are labeled Receipts

Determine OSX version from Time Machine backup

I have Time Machine backups going back several years. Is there a way while browsing backups to determine which version was running?

You're correct. I have been using HDMI. I will try VGA when I get home this evening.

    Official: Mojave Thread

I hadn't realized that but you are correct. It does present additional resolutions. I have stepped through each one and none provide a solution. 640 X 480 does finally reveal the menu bar along the top but it obviously is at an unacceptable resolution. My 1080p monitor should be able to be...

    Official: Mojave Thread

Just updated to Mojave 10.14.6 on a Late 2012 Mac Mini. I'm unable to locate the underscan slider. System Preferences/Desktop is traditionally where I have gone to look but it's not there. I have a ViewSonic VX2753MH-LED and pressing the option key lights up the "Detect Displays" button on...

Time Machine is renaming folders on my backup disk

Thanks Cheryl. Not enough time this evening to get it all done but it sounds like a workable plan.

Time Machine is renaming folders on my backup disk

I'm using an external 2TB drive that had a backup on it from 2017, to back up a couple of current Macs. The first backup goes without a hitch. But after moving backup drive to another machine and backing it up, it changes the folder name for the previous backup and adds the backup to it's...

    Recalibrating more than one battery

I've recalibrated my battery each month since purchasing my MacBook Pro to keep the battery as fresh as possible. Run the battery down till it goes to sleep, wait 5 hours and then recharge it to 100%. I understand that there is a circuit that tracks battery health for the System Profiler...

MacBook can't connect to some WiFi

I've had trouble recently connecting to WiFi routers that are redirecting to a login page. A library will send your browser to a page with their terms and conditions. You click that you understand and you are on. All the Dells and HPs are connecting without trouble but my MacBook stumbles...

My Mac can't see the hard drive

Nah. I use the OSX side 98% of the time. It wouldn't be convenient. I'll keep searching for an alternative. d

My Mac can't see the hard drive

    >> What did the drive come out of? Can you hear it spin up? Brand new drive. After the problems I mentioned, I installed MacOS on the 3.5 inch drive and booted from it without problems, so the drive is good. Tried again to have laptop mount it without success. >> put the drive in...

My Mac can't see the hard drive

I need to install Windows on a 3.5 inch SATA drive but the only SATA machine I have is my MacBook Pro. I disconnected my internal laptop drive and connected to the larger drive. I booted from the Windows DVD but the install program could not see the drive. It could however see an...

    Editing ISO files

So it appears I will need to do this in a Windows environment. Not a problem, I have a couple of Windows boxes but I wanted to move off that platform. I have a couple of good Windows apps for working with ISOs and assumed that there would be similar apps in the Mac world.

    Editing ISO files

I've downloaded a Linux Distro known as a Live DVD in ISO format. I want to burn this to a DVD for future use but would like to change what is in the ISO before burning. There are several files that I would like included so I won't have to have a second CD/DVD later. DiskImageMounter does...

    Reading and interpreting boot messages

I have 4 Gig of RAM and it takes 63 seconds to boot to a logon prompt. But you've missed the point of the question that I've asked. I want to know where I can find a complete list of the messages from logon and is there a good reference/faq/resource on what it all means. I've located the...

    Reading and interpreting boot messages

This isn't about fixing something broken. How long should my mac take to boot? Maybe I'm loading unnecessary services that could be disabled for speedier boot time. I don't own a printer so printer services would never be needed. Admittedly, I come from the Windows world where tweaking...
