Music playback and high cpu usage

I just got a new macbook pro 15" with a Sandybridge quad core Core i7 and the playback of a 175kbps (VBR) mp3 (lame 3.90 encoded) uses ~14% of the cpu. That seems really high to me. I'm coming from a first generation Intel Core Solo 1.06Ghz ULV and music playback in Amarok on linux (using the...

Cmd+Tab through applications within ONE Space

I don't mean to sound rude, but it's also true on linux that you can have multiple windows of a single application open on different virtual desktops. This is true of most window managers such as KWin. It's not a Mac thing. Also, you say that spaces are not intended to be independent virtual...

Cmd+Tab through applications within ONE Space

Is there any way to cycle through applications open on a given Space? By default Cmd+Tab cycles through applications on ALL spaces. If Spaces are to be thought of as mostly independent virtual desktops, then this is BAD OS behavior. In KDE (I've moved from there) one can "Expose" or "Cmd+Tab"...

    Tabbed pdf viewer/reader?

I can't find a single tabbed pdf viewer for the Mac. Is that possible? I'm coming from linux where acroread (Acrobat Reader) supported tabbed document navigation. I haven't installed Acrobat Reader X on my machine yet because it doesn't appear to support tabbed navigation and because I...

Firefox ctrltab preview doesn't cycle through tabs

I've enabled (in about:config) the option browser.ctrlTab.previews, but when I press ctrl+tab and continue pressing tab, it doesn't cycle through the list. It just stays on the last tab viewed. When previews are disabled it cycles through tabs just fine. On my linux machine ctrl+tab cycles...

"Border snap", i.e. snap dragged windows to screen edge

I guess you didn't understand (or I can't find the setting), but I want the window to snap to the edge, I don't want Aero's snap feature. Again, what I mean is that when I drag a window to the edge of the screen, I don't want it to extend past the visible screen space easily.

"Border snap", i.e. snap dragged windows to screen edge

The title is not referring to the Windows 7 feature "Aero snap". I want to know whether there is an app that will snap the window to the edge when the window is dragged close to that edge. Almost every linux window manager has this feature (such as metacity (gnome), kwin (KDE), openbox, etc.)...
