Windows 2000 Mac volumes appear emtpy

That's odd. OSX boots fine on my Beige G3. It's slower by far than my G4, but it runs fine. Here's something to try. when you install, don't install the optional BSD components. They seemed to screw things up quite a bit for me the first time I tried installing 4k46

    new boot and login screens

Here's and easy one to do, and quite enjoyable. to change the boot screen in OSX replace the file "BootPanel.pdf" in the Folder "System-Library-Core Services-Resources" with a 640x480 pdf picture renamed "BootPanel.pdf" To change the login screen, replace the "loginpanel.tiff" in...

Changing the Window Manager on X windows

XFree86 is the X-windows system. It lets you run X-windows applications. Xvnc is an app that lets you use a vnc viewer to work with the XFree86 that you have already installed. This is really slow however, because it has to use VNC and TCP/IP instead of just looking at your X-Windows. I'm...

    NFS exports on Darwin

I've been trying for some time now to be able to export a directory from Darwin to other *nix computers with NFS. I've set the exports in the NetInfo database, started the apppropriate daemons and still no go. I've even tried a program called NFSManager that I found on Versiontracker.com...

    gcc

scruffy is right. cc is gcc, but you redbird is wrong in saying that you need to be an ADC member to get them. They Darwin1.2 installer comes with everything you need to compile pretty much anything. I was able to get them installed by running the Darwin installer and then the OSX installer...

New Pro Keyboard will not work on OS X

I have a pro keyboard and mouse and both work fine uder OSX. No, the extra keys will not work under OSX. That is something that needs to be added to the OS. I doubt it is yet,but I'm sure it will be. You can rest assured that anything Steve says at a keynote will be well supported.

I've heard of this problem before. Are you sure you're using a CD from apple and not one that has been made into a Toast Image and then put onto a CD-R?

    Colored PB G4

I was a little excited about this so I wrote the USGS on the subject. Here is their reply. When exposed to air, titanium metal develops a protective oxide film on its surface. At elevated temperatures (about 480 degree C (900 F), the oxide layer builds up to give a blue color. Unless...

That <bleeping> password won't let me in!!!

well, since OSX keeps all of it's user info in the netinfo database, all you have to do is delete this file. then reinstall OSX. It will create a new NI database and you will need to enter a new password that should work just fine. This will work fine, granted you haven't edited the NI...
