Recently had the same problem with iPod shuffle (1G): iTunes told me that there is no more music on my iPod, only media marked as "Other".
These steps helped me to restore my music back (Windows & macOS):
1) I made sure hidden folders are shown
2) Plugged in my iPod
3) Opened...
