    I'll answer my own post... I had defined JAVA_HOME in my .tcshrc file and it was pointing to 1.3 (not 1.3.1). All is good now... and the new java is fast and pretty!

    Palm Desktop for OSX

    I heard where Palm Desktop for OSX is not going to be out till the end of the year. Uggh! Anyone seen any alpha versions floating around. It would be pitiful if Microsoft got Entourage working before Palm did.

    If you also do code editing... I like jEdit (http://jedit.sourceforge.net). It's a very usable java application and it's free. It of course is a good text editor as well.

    Mail client

    I leave them the messages on the server by not deleting them from the server (under account advanced options). Not as good as IMAP but good enough for now. You are exactly right about folders. Even OE can do this.

    It does support 5 digits... ;-) When hooked up to the UNIX IMAP server it pulled over a ton of junk as messages. I think I had 36,000. Try and top that.

    I both love and hate Mail.app. For me I specifically hated the IMAP implementation. When connecting to a UNIX IMAP mail server it would recursively navigate my home directory creating mailboxes out of every file in my account. This obviously took a long time and was annoying. <P> I tried...

    Can't modify hard drive icons

    I have roughly the same configuration as you do... I have had the same issues. I currently have been able to change the icon for my hard drive on the desktop. I did a "get info" on the drive and cut and pasted the image. It did not change immediately. I had to log-out and log-back in...
