Any Powerbook 17in User Reports Yet??

Just got mine. So far, I love it. It's a very classy machine. The speed is quite good, as well. Since I hadn't seen one before I got mine, when I took it out of the box, it seemed absolutely HUGE. It was like a wide, thin monolith. The keyboard seems very solid, and the trackpad is nice and...

    FireWire2 a Go

The comparison to ATA discussion is really only relevant to drives. The new FireWire would have far more significance to the audio and video world where it is used for moving audio and video around. ATA doesn't really work there.

    Entourage Crashing.

Actually, I think the problem I was running into was with using Hotmail accounts. It seems there's a problem with Entourage's Hotmail implementation. I haven't tested this yet, though.

    Entourage Crashing.

Actually, I am having the crashing problems whenever I hit Send & Receive or Cmd-K (the shortcut for Send & Receive). It gets all the mail, notifies me, then promptly "Unexpectedly quits" like clockwork. If I allow it to check on its own, it works correctly. If I Send & Receive to any...

    The final menu bar solution!

Oh. I think I'm getting it now. Thanks for the info. I don't think it would require as much work as I thought. So, basically, the app doesn't have to process anything until a final selection is made, thus circumventing the round-trips to the app code each time. The WindowServer could use...

    The final menu bar solution!

Hmmm. This is actually an interesting concept. Unfortunately, it's been abused by degrading arguments. Strobe, I want to make sure I'm clear on a few things (please be gentle, I'm new at this ;-) )... In order to have a shared memory space for the menus so as to avoid IPCs, would this mean...

To intel or not to intel

Totally agree with that. By leveraging the speed push in the Intel world, we could use the core piece of their puzzle (the proc) with Apple designed/controlled boards. There may be a challenge in dealing with AltiVec; however, I'm sure there would be a way to compensate for that. We are doing...

    Does sleep work with OSX?

On my PB G3/300 (Old), sleep works wonderfully in the GM. It's goes to sleep more quickly and awakens virtually instantaneously. I haven't tested any power issues with PC Cards, though, and haven't really done much in the way of testing battery utilization.
