    Java on OS X forum

I guess you're right, no one cares enough about Java on OS X for Java to have its own forum. Apple can't even keep up with the Java releases from Sun. It's strange to see Java on OS X turn out this way because when OS X was still 10.1, Steve Jobs promised that OS X would be a very strong...

OS X needs a "thumbnail view" option

... and one more thing: If there are more icons than can fit in the view of the finder window, the icon rendering algorithm waits for the user to scroll an icon into view before it loads the image from disk. Change that. I want the finder to have the option to have the all the icons in the whole...

OS X needs a "thumbnail view" option

Large thumbnail icons aren't large enough. OS X needs extra-large and super-size. After all, this is America.

OS X needs a "thumbnail view" option

The Windows XP directory browser has a "thumbnail view" option. I can' t believe Microsoft beat the Apple to this obviously good GUI option. When I'm looking to delete one image in a group of four hundred, looking for the picture instead of the name is much, much more efficient. Especially if I...

    who

Is this normal for OS X to create a pseudo tty for every instance of "terminal" that we run? $ who userx console Feb 26 09:19 userx ttyp1 Feb 26 09:33 userx ttyp2 Feb 26 09:33 userx ttyp3 Feb 26 10:26 10:33 up 1:15, 4 users, load averages: 0.26 0.23 0.16...

    Mac Mini is almost interesting

Why does the Mac Mini almost make me excited but leaves me unstirred? 1. Needs dual gigabit ethernet ports, it has only one 100mbit ethernet port 2. Needs at least one Firewire 800 port 3. Overpriced by exactly $100.00 dollars. 4. The Mini shouldn't have an internal CDROM drive. I'd rather...

mounting NFS share very slow from client, not server

I configured an NFS share on OS X. When I mount it from the OS X NFS server, the mount occurs immediately. When I mount the nfs share from a network client, the mounting takes five or six minutes to complete. Mounting was so slow, at first, I thought the mount wasn't working. What can I do to...

Safari Keychain password prompt: please make it stop

Bobw, if you follow your own instructions you will notice that the user must type in their keychain password in order to make changes. If you re-read the above posts, the problem is that we don't know our keychain passwords.

Safari Keychain password prompt: please make it stop

Every time I type something into a Safari web page form, keychain prompts me for a password which I can't remember. Please, how do I make it stop asking? I don't want Safari to remember anything I type in. I don't want to have to stop using Safari but I will because this is driving me nuts.
