Update from questionner: I have come to the conclusion that the only way to deal with the problem is to save the file again and then actually delete the blank text records, thus having one file of numberical and one of a-z records only.

I have created a database with 3 number fields and 2 text fields, sorting variously in numerical order of a-z as required. However, when sorting a-z I wish to eliminate number fields which do not have text fields attached: in other words, some number fields currently have blank text fields...
