    Virus protection? Come On!

There are 4655 known Macintosh virii. Quite a lot of those are M$ Office related macro-virii. Most, actually. But quite a lot of virii that could damage a classic system exist. When it comes to Mac OS X, we have to take worms more seriously; any one of us that have activated Apache, for...

    changing Darwin ">console" keyboard

Hi! I had this question form another user - Norwegian - last week. There are two ways to do it; but only one that's actually go anywhere... You can configure your cli application to use another character set; but the application has to support this. Or, you have to exchange your...

    Burning Questions

You wouldn't know how to get hold of OS X fonts? I think OS X uses TrueType fonts; I think I read that somewhere. Would that mean I can just drag'n'drop fonts from my 'classic' collection, or do I have to convert them first? Bankmann ------------- G4/450 DP 768MB RAM 40 GB 10 GB 30 GB :D

    Bootable CD

I've tried to burn a cd with my old 9.0.4 system on it; this was before upgrading to Mac OS X/Classic 9.1. The cd would either only boot half way and then cause a crash or just plain refuse to boot. So, I think there could be more to it than just copying... Bankmann

    PPP Error 246...

Checking the TIL on the 10.0.4 update, I see that what Apple has fixed in connection with the ppp-problem is: "The advanced PPPoE option "Send PPP echo packets" now behaves as expected when disabled. " So it's not really the bug that has been fixed; it's a related bug that made...

    PPP Error 246...

Drewbert, no, I haven't gotten as far as OmniWeb, yet. ;-) I'm an Opera-fan (Although I have to admit the Wintel version is better than the Mac version...), and want to check that one first. I got the dns-failures with IE 5.1 and Opera 5.0, as well as with Mail and Eudora 5.0. Ping didn't...

    PPP Error 246...

I upgraded to 10.0.4 this weekend! The good part is, the ppp disconnect problem is gone. :D The bad thing is, I had an inordniate number of dns-lookup failures. :( I'm not yet sure whether this is due to some problem on the ISP's side, but to get things working again, I had to...

    PPP Error 246...

In reply to gidds: How I knew is that I own one myself. ;-) I started having disconnect problems from moment one. At first I thought it was my ISP; they'd just exchanged most of their server farm and dial-up connection hw. Then I started checking out the origins of the error messages. And...

    PPP Error 246...

Hi, Bhende! Well, the ppp-bug is so irritating it's easy to doubt Apple's sincerity in the matter, but arguably this is something they can't afford to let go. Apple hailed the combination of DP and OS X as the thing to really show what the Mac is good for. So, yes, I do think this bug...

making osx logon to a w2k/linux account server

Do you really mean log on - as user? The problem with Win2K is that it doesn't deliver AppleShare over IP - which OS X requires. Myself, I cannot even see the AppleTalk zone on my Win2K server; I have to use ftp to gain access. Mac OS 9.1 proper acts very well with Win2K; better than with SFM...

    PPP Error 246...

It's my guess that a lot of you, experiencing this problem, are owners of dual processor G4s, right? OS X's ppp-implementation has a bug that is triggered on these machines. In version 10.0.0 and -.1 this could even result in kernel panics. The kernel panics was fixed in version 10.0.2, but...
