Although it was an odd solution. I had this same problem and fixed it this way.
It turns out that I am using a wireless network. Under System Preferences -> Network-> TCp/IP settings.
I had Configure IPv4 set to -> Off
Even though I was perfectly well connected to the net via Aiport...
