    Initially I didn't think my jumper setting wasn't correct, as I was able to mount the disk and install the OS. I'll try next week and post a reply afterwards. Thanks the hint.

    On the original HD, it was "Dev 0, forcing Dev 1". So I did the same on the new. May I try "Master" or disable the CD-ROM drive (just to see) ?

    Personnaly i use Texshop for more than one year without difficulties. It is easy. http://www.uoregon.edu/~koch/texshop/ with teTex http://www.rna.nl/tex.html It contains PDFLaTex so you don't need GS anymore.
