System just seems to freeze up for no particular reason. No pattern to it! Just a thought....could Norton Firewall be responsible?

Hi, Got Apple Imac ( 1 yr old). Noticed over the last few weeks that periodically & for no particular reason, or so it seems, that my systems just freezes. Last couple of times has Firefox 2.0.0.2 open & was looking at email. Any suggestions as to what I can do to prevent this? Thanks...
