    It was a broken LCD panel. The screen was just busted. At the time I had no idea that LCD panel screens are composed of several smaller LCD areas which are usually striped vertically.

    Thanks for your response. This morning this bar was on the screen but I was not looking at my mac but my windows box... The KVM is generating the faulty video overlay and not the Mac. This is good and bad, but at least I don't have a funky software problem on my Mac. Thanks for your help. Andy
