    How safe is sysctl(8) to change kern.maxfiles?

    I'm running 10.4.4 on a dual g5. In response to occasional but disabling system messages like: kernel[0]: file: table is full, I'm considering % sysctl -w kern.maxfiles=25000 which is about 2x the current value. How safe is this? Alternate solutions? Thanks in advance. Fil Salustri

    Wow. http://ezine.daemonnews.org/200006/answerman.html is very interesting. So, how reliable is using sysctl to set kern.maxfiles? I mean, in the old days when I was a sysadmin, changing a running kernel like that was a wet dream. Thanks again.
