    Firewire drive not mounting

I posted about a similar problem about a week ago. My external Firewire hard drive stopped mounting after a couple of years of working flawlessly. Look back at that posting for discussion about solutions. Briefly, I would first do what HateEternal suggests. If that fails, start looking into...

    Crossfire Smardisk External Hardrive 160gb

Your posts were a long time ago so I assume your problems must have been resolved. If not, you could try using Disk Utility to verify/repair possible damage to the disk. I've been recommended Disk Warrior (similar but supposedly more powerful than Disk Utility) and Data Rescue (recover data...

Repairing/Recovering data from a Firewire hard drive that does not mount

Data Rescue to the rescue. Thanks for pointing me to it. It managed to rescue an important file with the demo version. I'll happily pay for the full version in order to rescue the remaining important files. It's good of them to have a demo version that can be used to see if the program...

Repairing/Recovering data from a Firewire hard drive that does not mount

Thanks for the pointer toward Data Rescue. I'll try it out tonight. I'm not too optimistic though, because on the surface, Data Rescue does not appear to be all that different than Disk Warrior. Reeze: Good luck with your second drive.

Repairing/Recovering data from a Firewire hard drive that does not mount

Thanks for pointing me toward Disk Utility and Disk Warrior. Alas, neither has managed to repair my hard drive. I found the following with these programs. I'm hoping a moreknowledgeable and experienced hand might be able to diagnose what ails the drive. 1) When repairing the defective...

Repairing/Recovering data from a Firewire hard drive that does not mount

My external Firewire Hard drive stopped mounting about a week ago after working flawlessly for over 2 years. The drive spins away, but does not appear on the desktop. I was told by somebody that Norton Utilities for the Macintosh can be used to repair the drive. Does anybody know if this is...

    Replacement for batch/at?

Yes, I do realize one could simply re-enable the function. But clearly Apple has a reason for disabling it (power management I believe), and I wonder if they've implemented or recommended a replacement that has the same functionality.

    Replacement for batch/at?

It seems that MacOSX disables the UNIX batch/at commands. Is there a recommended replacement for these commands?

Transferring data from Windows PC to Powerbook G4

That wasn't the actual IP address. I just threw a few numbers together as an example.

Transferring data from Windows PC to Powerbook G4

Thanks to all for your advice. I mounted the PC on the Powerbook via SMB. It turns out that originally, the IP addresses were the problem. My PC had an IP address that differed from the IP address of my Powerbook in all 4 numbers. I manually set the IP address of the PC to match that of the...

Transferring data from Windows PC to Powerbook G4

I have 7-8 GB of data on a Dell laptop running Windows XP Pro that I'm trying to transfer to my Titanium Powerbook G4. I don't have access to a DVD burner, so I'm trying to transfer this data by directly connecting the two laptops with an ethernet cable. I haven't been able to get this...

    X11 won't start (10.3.1, X11 1.0)

Yup. I hadn't realized that X11.app was going to be installed in /Applications/Utilities. I just removed /Applications/X11.app and everything works fine with the new version now. Thanks.

    X11 won't start (10.3.1, X11 1.0)

Did you find a solution? I ran into exactly the same problem today. My X11 was working just fine on OS X 10.2.8 all day, but I got almost exactly the same message as you got after installing 10.3. I haven't tried to reinstall the X11 based on your lack of success in getting it to work...

    Emacs in separate window

fink.sourceforge.net has an emacs package (20.7 I think) that works with X. I haven't done it myself, but I've seen an emacs installed from this package working on a Macintosh G4 running OSX 10.1. The fink site has a bunch of other useful programs as well. They're all put together as Debian...
