Problems with Linksys WAP Router and Bronze PB Airport

And your neighbors and wardrivers do too. :-) Make sure your network is as secure as you can make it. WEP isn't very good, but it's better than not having it on. That is, unless you WANT to share your wireless, which is a cool thing to do. Cheers, John

    Windows Terminal Client

Seems we let this one die out. rdesktop works just fine now with Windows XP, but still only 8 bit color. That's fine, but I'd obviously prefer it to look better. The font problem is gone with the latest version. None of the options help at all with the colors, but that doesn't surprise me. Full...

    Windows Terminal Client

I used the patches and have it working perfectly. However I had to run it over VNC since I'm at work. That's a trick, use VNC to access the Mac from my Win2k box at work, and the Mac is running rdesktop to access my XP box on my home LAN. :-) I'll try it tonight when I get home and see how the...

    Windows Terminal Client

You guys seem to be having great success with this. That screen shot looks a lot better than my results. I've been getting garbled fonts, however I'm connecting to XP, not Win2k. That may be part of it. Since we have the Remote Desktop code, how realistic is it to make a native Cocoa version...

    Windows Terminal Client

Here's my binary. Let me know how it works. Oops it doesn't want me to upload it! :-) Let me put it on my idisk. 1 sec. Ok, get it here: http://homepage.mac.com/johnpgibbons/FileSharing8.html John

    Windows Terminal Client

I've made it work as well. However have not tested the d and q key issue. I'm having a lot of font problems though. Many fonts look garbled. A refresh sometimes helps. Is this just me? Also, is there any reason why someone doesn't just post the binary? I'm a unix geek and had no problems with...

    Windows Terminal Client

If any of you get this working can you post the binary? Also, does anyone know where I can get the developer tools? They didn't come on my box for some reason. Cheers, John

    traceroute behind NAT router

I can't speak for Windows since I'm at work, but my two linux boxes and os x will not traceroute behind my linksys router.

    Mac V.S PC

While that's clever, it doesn't solve the problem I have. I don't mind the dock for launching programs. What I want is a task bar that shows EVERY window that's open, like what windows has. I can live with things the way they are, I understand the Mac well enough now to get around. I just think...

    Mac V.S PC

The task bar in XP defaults to grouping program windows together. For example, all IE windows are under one IE bar at the bottom, click it to pick the one you want. I turned that off after about 30 minutes though. Same problem I had with OS X. However it's still better than the way the Dock...

    sftp non-interactive batch mode

gumse is right about this. Go with the key method. It'll allow you to securely login to the box via ssh and use all the "s" commands without a password prompt. This is the best way to go unless you have some serious security needs or issues. John

    Windows Terminal Client

Where are you getting this? My fink doesn't list rdesktop. On their site the package is listed, but there's no download link. I have never gotten rdesktop to work properly on Unix. It either has messed up fonts or the keyboard isn't mapped correctly, or both. Great idea, but not there yet...

    Mac V.S PC

One comment on this. I've had my Mac for three days now and I love it. But it's important to mention that the statement "The mac is easier to learn" isn't always true. It's possible that some people may find it easier than Windows, but having used both I can say that Windows is a lot easier in...

I think I may switch to the Mac, but I have some questions...

Just an FYI, typing this from my G4 867 with Superdrive. :-) So far so good. Thanks for the help. There are a few quirks and differences that will take a little time to figure out, but all in all not so bad. I'll post more later when I've had a chance to soak it all in. Cheers, John

I think I may switch to the Mac, but I have some questions...

First of all thank you all for the great responses. It's been very helpful. I, like a lot of computer hobbiests always want the latest and greatest. I'm trying to resist that, because what if I don't end up liking the Mac? I know, that'll never happen, but just in case! :-) I've seen the...

I think I may switch to the Mac, but I have some questions...

Hi, First of all, forgive me if you guys get a post like this three times a week. I checked the active topics and didn't see anything like it. :-) I'm a long time PC user, hate windows (although 2k and XP are big improvements) and I'm also a major Unix fan. I do Unix at work, and run...
